Numbers 2

Tribes and Leaders by Armies

And the Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying: Every man of the children of Israel will camp by his own standard, with the ensign of his father’s house. Facing the tent of meeting they will camp.

On the east side toward the rising of the sun the standard of the camp of Judah will camp throughout their armies, and Nahshon the son of Amminadab will be captain of the children of Judah. His host, and those who were numbered of them, were seventy-four thousand six hundred.

Those who camp next to him will be the tribe of Issachar, and Nethanel the son of Zuar will be captain of the children of Issachar. His host, and those who were numbered of them, were fifty-four thousand four hundred.

Then comes the tribe of Zebulun, and Eliab the son of Helon will be captain of the children of Zebulun. His host, and those who were numbered of them, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred.

All who were numbered throughout the armies in the camp of Judah were one hundred and eighty-six thousand four hundred. They will march out first.

10 On the south side will be the standard of the camp of Reuben according to their armies, and the captain of the children of Reuben will be Elizur the son of Shedeur. 11 His host, and those who were numbered of them, were forty-six thousand five hundred.

12 Those who camp by him will be the tribe of Simeon, and the captain of the children of Simeon will be Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai. 13 His host, and those who were numbered of them, were fifty-nine thousand three hundred.

14 Then comes the tribe of Gad, and the captain of the sons of Gad will be Eliasaph the son of Reuel. 15 His host, and those who were numbered of them, were forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty.

16 All who were numbered in the camp of Reuben were one hundred and fifty-one thousand four hundred and fifty, throughout their armies. And they will set out in the second rank.

17 Then the tent of meeting will set out with the camp of the Levites in the middle of the camp. As they camp, so they will set out, every man in his place by their standards.

18 On the west side will be the standard of the camp of Ephraim according to their armies, and the captain of the sons of Ephraim will be Elishama the son of Ammihud. 19 His host, and those who were numbered of them, were forty thousand five hundred.

20 By him will be the tribe of Manasseh, and the captain of the children of Manasseh will be Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur. 21 His host, and those who were numbered of them, were thirty-two thousand two hundred.

22 Then comes the tribe of Benjamin, and the captain of the sons of Benjamin will be Abidan the son of Gideoni. 23 His host, and those who were numbered of them, were thirty-five thousand four hundred.

24 All who were numbered of the camp of Ephraim were one hundred and eight thousand one hundred, throughout their armies. And they will go out in the third rank.

25 The standard of the camp of Dan will be on the north side by their armies, and the captain of the children of Dan will be Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai. 26 His host, and those who were numbered of them, were sixty-two thousand seven hundred.

27 Those who camp by him will be the tribe of Asher, and the captain of the children of Asher will be Pagiel the son of Okran. 28 His host, and those who were numbered of them, were forty-one thousand five hundred.

29 Then the tribe of Naphtali, and the captain of the children of Naphtali will be Ahira the son of Enan. 30 His host, and those who were numbered of them, were fifty-three thousand four hundred.

31 All they who were numbered in the camp of Dan were one hundred and fifty-seven thousand six hundred. They will set out in the back with their standards.

32 These are those who were numbered of the children of Israel by the house of their fathers. All those who were numbered of the camps throughout their hosts were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty. 33 But the Levites were not numbered among the children of Israel, as the Lord commanded Moses.

34 The children of Israel did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses. So they camped by their standards, and so they set out, each one after his family, according to their fathers’ houses.

Psalm 36

Psalm 36

For the Music Director. A Psalm of David, the servant of the Lord.

An oracle within my heart
    about the transgression of the wicked:
There is no fear of God
    before their eyes.

For they flatter themselves in their own eyes,
    that their iniquity cannot be found out and hated.
The words of their mouth are wickedness and deceit;
    they have ceased to be wise and to do good.
They devise mischief on their bed;
    they set themselves on a path that is not good;
    they do not reject evil.

Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens,
    and Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the great mountains,
    Your judgments like the great deep;
O Lord, You preserve man and beast.
    How excellent is Your lovingkindness, O God!
Therefore mankind
    seeks refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
They will drink their fill from the abundance of Your house,
    and You will cause them to drink from the river of Your pleasures.
For with You is the fountain of life;
    in Your light we see light.

10 Oh, continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You,
    and Your righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 Do not let the foot of the arrogant come against me,
    and do not let the hand of the wicked cause me to wander.
12 There the workers of iniquity have fallen;
    they are cast down and not able to rise.

Ecclesiastes 12

12 Remember your Creator
    in the days of your youth,
before the difficult days come
    and the years arrive when you say,
    “I have no pleasure in them”:
before the sun, light,
    moon, and stars are darkened,
    and the clouds leave after the rain;
in the day when those watching the house tremble,
    and the strong men are bent over;
when the grinders cease because they are few,
    and those looking through the windows have dimmed eyes;
and the doors on the street are shut,
    and the sound of grinding is low;
and one rises up at the sound of a bird,
    and all the daughters of song are brought low;
when they are afraid of heights,
    even the terrors along the road;
the almond tree blossoms,
    the grasshopper drags itself along
    and desire fails,
because man goes to his eternal home,
    and the mourners go about the streets.

Remember your Creator before the cord of silver is snapped,
    or the bowl of gold smashed,
or the jar by the spring broken
    or the wheel at the cistern crushed.
The dust returns to the earth where it was,
    and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

It is all vanity, says the Preacher;
    all is vanity.

Epilogue

And in addition to being wise, the Preacher still taught the people knowledge, and he considered, sought out, and arranged many proverbs. 10 And the Preacher sought to discover words of delight, and to write in uprightness words of truth.

11 The words of the wise are like goads, and the collected sayings are like firmly embedded nails, given by one shepherd. 12 My son, beware of anything beyond these.

Of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness to the flesh.

13 Now all has been heard.
    Let us hear the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep His commandments,
    for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God will bring every deed into judgment,
    including every secret thing,
    whether good or evil.

Philemon

Salutation

Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother,

To Philemon, our beloved fellow laborer, and to beloved Apphia, and to Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house:

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Philemon’s Love and Faith

I thank my God, always mentioning you in my prayers, whenever I hear of your love and faith, which you have toward the Lord Jesus and for all the saints, that the sharing of your faith may be most effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you from Christ Jesus. For we have great joy and encouragement on account of your love, because the hearts of the saints are refreshed through you, brother.

Paul Pleads for Onesimus

Therefore, though I might be very bold in Christ to command you to do that which is proper, yet for love’s sake I rather appeal to you—I, Paul, an old man, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ— 10 I appeal to you on behalf of my son Onesimus, whose father I have become in my imprisonment, 11 who in the past was unprofitable to you, but now he is profitable to you and to me.

12 I have sent him back. Therefore receive him as my own heart. 13 I wanted to keep him with me, so that in your place he might serve me during my imprisonment for the gospel. 14 But without your consent I would do nothing, so that your goodness would not be forced, but given willingly. 15 Perhaps this was why he departed for a while, that you might receive him forever, 16 no longer as a slave but more than a slave, a beloved brother, especially to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.

17 If then you consider me a partner, receive him as you would me. 18 If he wronged you or owes you anything, charge this to my account. 19 I, Paul, have written this with my own hand. I will repay it—not to mention that you owe me even your own self. 20 Yes, brother, help me rejoice in the Lord, refresh my heart in the Lord. 21 Being convinced of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will also do more than I say.

22 But, in addition, prepare also lodging for me, for I hope that through your prayers I shall be graciously restored to you.

Final Greetings

23 Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you, 24 as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow laborers.

25 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
