137 1 The people of God in their banishment seeing God’s true Religion decay, lived in great anguish and sorrow of heart: the which grief the Chaldeans did so little pity, 3 That they rather increased the same daily with taunts, reproaches and blasphemies against God. 7 Wherefore the Israelites desire God, first to punish the Edomites, who provoked the Babylonians against them, 8 And moved by the Spirit of God, prophesy the destruction of Babylon, where they were handled so tyrannously.
1 By the rivers of Babel we [a]sat, and there we wept, when we remembered Zion.
2 We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst [b]thereof.
3 Then they that led us captive, [c]required of us songs and mirth, when we had hanged up our harps, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
4 How shall we sing, said we, a song of the Lord in a strange land?
5 [d]If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget to play.
6 If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth: yea, if I prefer not Jerusalem to my [e]chief joy.
7 Remember the children of [f]Edom, O Lord, in the [g]day of Jerusalem, which said, Raze it, raze it to the foundation thereof.
8 O daughter of Babel, worthy to be destroyed, blessed shall he be that rewardeth thee, as thou hast served us.
9 [h]Blessed shall he be that taketh and dasheth thy children against the stones.
144 He praiseth the Lord with great affection and humility for his kingdom restored, and for his victories obtained. 5 Demanding help, and the destruction of the wicked, 9 Promising to acknowledge the same with songs of praises, 15 And declareth wherein the felicity of any people consisteth.
A Psalm of David.
1 Blessed be the Lord my strength, which [a]teacheth mine hands to fight, and my fingers to battle.
2 He is my goodness and my fortress, my tower and [b]my deliverer, my shield and in him I trust, [c]which subdueth my people under me.
3 Lord, what is man that thou [d]regardest him! or the son of man that thou thinkest upon him?
4 Man is like to vanity; his days are like a shadow that vanisheth.
5 [e]Bow thine heavens, O Lord, and come down; touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.
6 [f]Cast forth the lightning and scatter them; shoot out thine arrows and consume them.
7 Send thine hand from above: deliver me, and take me out of the great [g]waters, and from the hand of strangers,
8 Whose mouth talketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand [h]of falsehood.
9 I will sing a [i]new song unto thee, O God, and sing unto thee upon a viol, and an instrument of ten strings.
10 It is he that giveth deliverance unto kings, and rescueth David his [j]servant from the hurtful sword.
11 Rescue me, and deliver me from the hand of strangers, whose mouth talketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood:
12 [k]That our sons may be as the plants growing up in their youth, and our daughters as the corner stones, graven after the similitude of a palace:
13 That our [l]corners may be full and abounding with divers sorts, and that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousand in our streets.
14 That our [m]oxen may be strong to labor; that there be none invasion, nor going out, nor no crying in our streets.
15 Blessed are the people, that be [n]so, yea blessed are the people whose God is the Lord.
42 1 The Prophet grievously complaineth, that being letted by his persecutors, he could not be present in the congregation of God’s people, protesting that although he was separated in body from them, yet his heart was thitherward affectioned. 7 And least of all he showed that he was not so far overcome with these sorrows and thoughts, 8 but that he continually put his confidence in the Lord.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm to give instruction, [a]committed to the sons of Korah.
1 As the Hart brayeth for the rivers of water, so [b]panted my soul after thee, O God.
2 My soul thirsteth for God, even for the living God: when shall I come and appear before the presence of God?
3 [c]Mine tears have been my meat day and night, while they daily say unto me, Where is thy God?
4 When I remembered [d]these things, I poured out my very heart, because I had gone with the multitude, and led them into the house of God with the voice of singing, and praise, as a multitude that keepeth a feast.
5 Why art thou cast down, my soul, and unquiet within me? [e]wait on God: for I will yet give him thanks for the help of his presence.
6 My God, my soul is cast down within me, [f]because I remembered thee, from the land of Jordan, and Hermon, and from the mount Mizar.
7 One [g]deep calleth another deep by the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy floods are gone over me.
8 The Lord [h]will grant his loving-kindness in the day, and in the night shall I sing of him, even a prayer unto the God of my life.
9 I will say unto God, which is my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning, when the enemy oppresseth me?
10 My [i]bones are cut asunder, while mine enemies reproach me, saying daily unto me, Where is thy God?
11 [j]Why art thou cast down, my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? wait on God: for I will yet give him thanks: he is my present help and my God.
43 1 He prayeth to be delivered from them that conspire against him, that he might joyfully praise God in his holy congregation.
1 Judge [k]me, O God, and defend my cause against the unmerciful [l]people: deliver me from the deceitful and wicked man.
2 For thou art the God of my strength: why hast thou put me away? why go I so mourning, when the enemy oppressed me?
3 Send thy [m]light and thy truth: let them lead me: let them bring me unto thine holy Mountain, and to thy Tabernacles.
4 Then [n]will I go unto the altar of God, even unto the God of my joy and gladness: and upon the harp will I give thanks unto thee, O God my God.
5 Why art thou cast down, my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me: [o]wait on God: for I will yet give him thanks, he is my present help and my God.
27 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will sow the house of Israel, and the house of Judah [a]with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.
28 And like as I have watched upon them, to pluck up and to root out, and to throw down, and to destroy, and to plague them, so will I watch over them, to build and to plant them, saith the Lord.
29 In those days shall they say no more, The fathers have [b]eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.
30 But everyone shall die for his own iniquity, every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.
31 ¶ Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a [c]new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah,
32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers, when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, the which my covenant they [d]brake, although I was [e]an husband unto them, saith the Lord.
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel, After [f]those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts, and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
34 And they shall [g]teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and will remember their sins no more.
25 [a]For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this secret (lest ye should be arrogant in [b]yourselves) that partly obstinacy is come to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be [c]come in.
26 And so all Israel shall be saved, as it is written, (A)The deliverer shall come out of Zion, and shall turn away the ungodliness from Jacob.
27 And this is my covenant to them, (B)When I shall take away their sins.
28 [d]As concerning the [e]Gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the [f]election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.
29 [g]For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
30 [h]For even as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
31 Even so now have they not believed by the mercy showed unto you, that they also may obtain mercy.
32 For God hath shut up [i]all in unbelief, that he might have mercy on all.
33 [j]O the deepness of the riches, both of the wisdom, and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his [k]judgments, and his [l]ways past finding out!
34 (C)[m]For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who was his counselor?
35 Or who hath given unto him [n]first, and he shall be recompensed?
36 For of him, and through him, and for [o]him are all things: to him be glory forever. Amen.
28 ¶ And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
29 And when she heard it, she arose quickly, and came unto him.
30 For Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in the place where Martha met him.
31 The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily, and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave, to weep there.
32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not been dead.
33 [a]When Jesus therefore saw her weep, and the Jews also weep which came with her, he [b]groaned in the spirit, and was troubled in himself,
34 And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
35 And Jesus wept.
36 Then said the Jews, behold, how he loved him.
37 And some of them said, (A)Could not he which opened the eyes of the blind, have made also, that this man should not have died?
38 Jesus therefore again groaned in himself, and came to the grave. And it was a cave, and a stone was laid upon it.
39 Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha the sister of him that was dead, said unto him, Lord, he stinketh already for he hath been dead four days.
40 Jesus said unto her, Said I not unto thee, that if thou didst believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee, because thou hast heard me.
42 I know that thou hearest me always, but because of the people that stand by, I said it, that they may believe, that thou hast sent me.
43 As he had spoken these things, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
44 Then he that was dead, came forth, bound hand and foot with bands, and his face was bound with a napkin. Jesus said unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
37 ¶ [a]And though he had done so many miracles before them, yet believed they not on him,
38 That the saying of Isaiah the Prophet might be fulfilled, that he said, (A)Lord, who believed our report? and to whom is the [b]arm of the Lord revealed?
39 Therefore could they not believe, because that Isaiah saith again,
40 (B)He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
41 These things said Isaiah when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
42 [c]Nevertheless, even among the chief rulers, many believed in him: but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be cast out of the Synagogue.
43 (C)For they loved the praise of men, more than the praise of God.
44 [d]And Jesus cried, and said, He that believeth in me, believeth [e]not in me, but in him that sent me.
45 And he that seeth me, seeth him that sent me.
46 I (D)am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth in me, should not abide in darkness.
47 (E)And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 He that refuseth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: (F)the word that I have spoken, it shall judge him in the last day.
49 For I have not spoken of myself: but the father which sent me, he gave me a commandment what I should say, and what I should speak.
50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: the things therefore that I speak, I speak them so as the Father said unto me.
