    For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
  13. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death.
  14. This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
  15. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?
  16. Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
  17. And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.
  18. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,
  19. but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
  20. God’s Love and Ours

    Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
  21. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
  22. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
  23. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
  24. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
  25. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
