[Remember] that you were at that time separated (living apart) from Christ [excluded from all part in Him], utterly estranged and outlawed from the rights of Israel as a nation, and strangers with no share in the sacred compacts of the [Messianic] promise [with no knowledge of or right in God’s agreements, His covenants]. And you had no hope (no promise); you were in the world without God.
  6. This is in accordance with the terms of the eternal and timeless purpose which He has realized and carried into effect in [the person of] Christ Jesus our Lord,
  7. Leave no [such] room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him].
  8. Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it.
  9. For it is a shame even to speak of or mention the things that [such people] practice in secret.
  10. Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil.
  11. At all times and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.
  12. That He might present the church to Himself in glorious splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such things [that she might be holy and faultless].
  13. Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God’s consecrated people).
