  1. Introduction

    Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Timothy, To the church of God which is at Corinth with all the saints who are throughout Achaia:
  2. For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ.
  3. But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer;
  4. and our hope for you is firmly grounded, knowing that as you are partners in our sufferings, so also you are in our comfort.
  5. Paul’s Integrity

    For our proud confidence is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and godly sincerity, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you.
  6. that is, to pass your way into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and by you to be helped on my journey to Judea.
  7. But as God is faithful, our word to you is not yes and no.
  8. For the Son of God, Christ Jesus, who was preached among you by us—by me and Silvanus and Timothy—was not yes and no, but has been yes in Him.
  9. For as many as the promises of God are, in Him they are yes; therefore through Him also is our Amen to the glory of God through us.
  10. Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God,
  11. For if I cause you sorrow, who then will be the one making me glad but the one who is made sorrowful by me?
  12. This is the very thing I wrote you, so that when I came, I would not have sorrow from those who ought to make me rejoice; having confidence in you all that my joy was the joy of you all.
  13. Sufficient for such a person is this punishment which was imposed by the majority,
  14. so that on the other hand, you should rather forgive and comfort him, otherwise such a person might be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.
  15. Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love for him.
  16. But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us reveals the fragrance of the knowledge of Him in every place.
  17. to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things?
  18. Such is the confidence we have toward God through Christ.
  19. Not that we are adequate in ourselves so as to consider anything as having come from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God,
  20. But if the ministry of death, engraved in letters on stones, came with glory so that the sons of Israel could not look intently at the face of Moses because of the glory of his face, fading as it was,
  21. For if that which fades away was with glory, much more that which remains is in glory.
  22. and we are not like Moses, who used to put a veil over his face so that the sons of Israel would not stare at the end of what was fading away.
  23. But their minds were hardened; for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains unlifted, because it is removed in Christ.
  24. But to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their hearts;
  25. but whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
