  8. Do not eat anything you find already dead. You may give it to the foreigner residing in any of your towns, and they may eat it, or you may sell it to any other foreigner. But you are a people holy to the Lord your God. Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.
  9. and do not erect a sacred stone, for these the Lord your God hates.
  10. But if out of hate someone lies in wait, assaults and kills a neighbor, and then flees to one of these cities,
  11. and put aside the clothes she was wearing when captured. After she has lived in your house and mourned her father and mother for a full month, then you may go to her and be her husband and she shall be your wife.
  12. A Rebellious Son

    If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him,
  13. his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town.
  14. If you come across a bird’s nest beside the road, either in a tree or on the ground, and the mother is sitting on the young or on the eggs, do not take the mother with the young.
  15. You may take the young, but be sure to let the mother go, so that it may go well with you and you may have a long life.
  16. then the young woman’s father and mother shall bring to the town elders at the gate proof that she was a virgin.
  17. “Cursed is anyone who dishonors their father or mother.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
  18. “Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
  19. “Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his mother-in-law.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
  20. The Lord your God will put all these curses on your enemies who hate and persecute you.
  21. when I sharpen my flashing sword and my hand grasps it in judgment, I will take vengeance on my adversaries and repay those who hate me.
  22. He said of his father and mother, ‘I have no regard for them.’ He did not recognize his brothers or acknowledge his own children, but he watched over your word and guarded your covenant.
