Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, “How is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?”

  20. And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!
  21. For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’ and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’
  22. Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”
  23. Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”
  24. Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened?
  25. Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”
