The Messiah’s Herald
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
-
As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way.
-
He proclaimed, “One who is more powerful than I am is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the strap of his sandals.
-
“Follow me,” Jesus told them, “and I will make you fish for people.”
-
Immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
-
Then a man with leprosy came to him and, on his knees, begged him, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.”
-
But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” —he told the paralytic—
-
Then, passing by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office, and he said to him, “Follow me,” and he got up and followed him.
-
And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear. By the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and more will be added to you.
-
As soon as he got out of the boat, a man with an unclean spirit came out of the tombs and met him.
-
And he cried out with a loud voice, “What do you have to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you before God, don’t torment me!”
-
The men who tended them ran off and reported it in the town and the countryside, and people went to see what had happened.
-
Jesus did not let him but told him, “Go home to your own people, and report to them how much the Lord has done for you and how he has had mercy on you.”
-
His disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing against you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’ ”
-
An opportune time came on his birthday, when Herod gave a banquet for his nobles, military commanders, and the leading men of Galilee.
-
When Herodias’s own daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests. The king said to the girl, “Ask me whatever you want, and I’ll give it to you.”
-
He promised her with an oath: “Whatever you ask me I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”
-
At once she hurried to the king and said, “I want you to give me John the Baptist’s head on a platter immediately.”
-
Now those who had eaten the loaves were five thousand men.
-
He answered them, “Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written: This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
-
They worship me in vain, teaching as doctrines human commands.
-
But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or mother: Whatever benefit you might have received from me is corban’” (that is, an offering devoted to God),
-
Summoning the crowd again, he told them, “Listen to me, all of you, and understand:
-
“I have compassion on the crowd, because they’ve already stayed with me three days and have nothing to eat.

Peter’s Confession of the Messiah
Jesus went out with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the road he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?”
