“When the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and not finding any, it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’

But the Lord answered him and said, “You hypocrites, does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall and lead him away to water him?

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath
It happened that when He went into the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees on the Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching Him closely.
-
When one of those who were reclining at the table with Him heard this, he said to Him, “Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!”
-
But when he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have more than enough bread, but I am dying here with hunger!
-
And he cried out and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.’

Preparing the Passover
Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching.

Then came the first day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.

And He said to them, “When you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house that he enters.
-
And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
-
When He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them.
-
They began to relate their experiences on the road and how He was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.

John answered them saying, “I baptize in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know.
-
I did not recognize Him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing in water.”

I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’

Now there were six stone waterpots set there for the Jewish custom of purification, containing twenty or thirty gallons each.

Jesus *said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim.
-
When the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter *called the bridegroom,

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there; and people were coming and were being baptized—

The Woman of Samaria
There *came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus *said to her, “Give Me a drink.”

Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

She *said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep; where then do You get that living water?
