An Introduction to Jesus the Messiah
This is a record of the life of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
-
After he had thought about it, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” he said, “don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
-
She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, because he is the one who will save his people from their sins.”
-
“See, a virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name him Immanuel,” which means, “God with us.”
-
He did not have marital relations with her until she had given birth to a son; and he named him Jesus.
-
He stayed there until Herod’s death in order to fulfill what was declared by the Lord through the prophet when he said, “Out of Egypt I called my Son.”
-
Then a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love. I am pleased with him!”
-
Then the tempter came. “Since you are the Son of God,” he said, “tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”
-
He told Jesus, “Since you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, because it is written, ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’ and, ‘With their hands they will hold you up, so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’”
-
Going on from there he saw two other brothers—James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee repairing their nets. When he called them,
-
“There isn’t a person among you who would give his son a stone if he asked for bread, is there?
-
Jesus told him, “Foxes have holes and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to rest.”
-
Suddenly, they screamed, “What do you want with us, Son of God? Did you come here to torture us before the proper time?”
-
All at once some people brought him a paralyzed man lying on a stretcher. When Jesus saw their faith, he told the paralyzed man, “Be courageous, son! Your sins are forgiven.”
-
But so you will know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…” he told the paralyzed man, “Get up, pick up your stretcher, and go home!”
-
Jesus Heals Two Blind Men
As Jesus was traveling on from there, two blind men followed him, shouting, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”
-
These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John;
-
Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;
-
So when they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, because I tell all of you with certainty that you will not have gone through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
-
The Cost of Discipleship
“The one who loves his father or mother more than me isn’t worthy of me, and the one who loves a son or daughter more than me isn’t worthy of me.
-
‘A wedding song we played for you, the dance you all did scorn. A woeful dirge we chanted, too, but then you would not mourn.’
-
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunk, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Absolved from every act of sin, is wisdom by her kith and kin.”
-
All things have been entrusted to me by my Father. No one fully knows the Son except the Father, and no one fully knows the Father except the Son and the person to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
-
for the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
-
All the crowds were amazed and kept saying, “This man isn’t the Son of David, is he?”
