And Jacob their father said to them, “You have bereaved me of my children: Joseph is no more, and Simeon is no more, and now you would take Benjamin; all this has come upon me.”

The Brothers Come Again, Bringing Benjamin

Now the famine was severe in the land.

Then you said to your servants, ‘Unless your youngest brother comes down with you, you shall see my face no more.’

Now therefore, when I come to your servant my father, and the lad is not with us, then, as his life is bound up in the lad’s life,

For how can I go back to my father if the lad is not with me? I fear to see the evil that would come upon my father.”

So Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me, I pray you.” And they came near. And he said, “I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt.

Make haste and go up to my father and say to him, ‘Thus says your son Joseph, God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not tarry;

and there I will provide for you, for there are yet five years of famine to come; lest you and your household, and all that you have, come to poverty.’

When the report was heard in Pharaoh’s house, “Joseph’s brothers have come,” it pleased Pharaoh and his servants well.

and take your father and your households, and come to me, and I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you shall eat the fat of the land.’

Command them also, ‘Do this: take wagons from the land of Egypt for your little ones and for your wives, and bring your father, and come.

Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “I will go up and tell Pharaoh, and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me;

So Joseph went in and told Pharaoh, “My father and my brothers, with their flocks and herds and all that they possess, have come from the land of Canaan; they are now in the land of Goshen.”

They said to Pharaoh, “We have come to sojourn in the land; for there is no pasture for your servants’ flocks, for the famine is severe in the land of Canaan; and now, we pray you, let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen.”

Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you.

And it was told to Jacob, “Your son Joseph has come to you”; then Israel summoned his strength, and sat up in bed.

Jacob’s Last Words to His Sons

Then Jacob called his sons, and said, “Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in days to come.

O my soul, come not into their council; O my spirit, be not joined to their company; for in their anger they slay men, and in their wantonness they hamstring oxen.

The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.

Naph′tali is a hind let loose, that bears comely fawns.

Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war befall us, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.”

The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous and are delivered before the midwife comes to them.”

When they came to their father Reu′el, he said, “How is it that you have come so soon today?”

Then he said, “Do not come near; put off your shoes from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.”

and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Per′izzites, the Hivites, and the Jeb′usites.
