³³ When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.

The Great Commandment^(A)

³⁴ When the Pharisees heard that He silenced the Sadducees, they came together. ³⁵ One of them, who was a lawyer, tested Him by asking Him, ³⁶ “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?”

³⁷ Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’^{[a] 38} This is the first and great commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’^{[b] 40} On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
