⁶ The chariot with the black horses goes toward ^(A)the north country, the white ones go after them, and the dappled ones go toward ^(B)the south country.”

The Glory of the Lord

⁴ As I looked, behold, ^(A)a stormy wind came ^(B)out of the north, and a great cloud, with ^(C)brightness around it, and fire flashing forth continually, and in the midst of the fire, ^(D)as it were gleaming metal.^[a]

Impending Disaster for Jerusalem

¹⁴ Then the Lord said to me, ^(A)“Out of the north disaster^[a] shall be let loose upon all the inhabitants of the land. ¹⁵ For behold, ^(B)I am calling all the tribes of the kingdoms of the north, declares the Lord, ^(C)and they shall come, and every one shall set his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, against all its walls all around and against all the cities of Judah.

^40 (A)“At the time of the end, the king of the south shall attack^[a] him, but the king of the north shall rush upon him ^(B)like a whirlwind, with chariots and horsemen, and with many ships. And he shall come into countries and ^(C)shall overflow and pass through.

³ Then ^(A)a mighty king shall arise, who shall rule with great dominion and ^(B)do as he wills. ⁴ And as soon as he has arisen, ^(C)his kingdom shall be broken and divided ^(D)toward the ^(E)four winds of heaven, but ^(F)not to his posterity, nor according to the authority with which he ruled, for his kingdom shall be plucked up and go to others besides these.

⁵ “Then the king of the south shall be strong, but one of his princes shall be stronger than he ^(G)and shall rule, and his authority shall be a great authority. ⁶ After some years ^(H)they shall make an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement. But she shall not retain the strength of her arm, and he and his arm shall not endure, but she shall be given up, and her attendants, he who fathered her, and he who supported^[a] her in those times.

⁵ And behold, ^(A)another beast, a second one, like a bear. It was raised up on one side. It had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth; and it was told, ‘Arise, devour much flesh.’ ⁶ After this I looked, and behold, another, like a ^(B)leopard, with four wings of a bird on its back. And the beast had four heads, and ^(C)dominion was given to it.
