39 1 (A)Mu mwaka ogwomwenda ogw’obufuzi kwa Zeddekiya kabaka wa Yuda, mu mwezi ogw’ekkumi, Nebukadduneeza kabaka w’e Babulooni, n’alumba Yerusaalemi, n’eggye lye lyonna, n’akizingiza. 2 Ku lunaku olw’omwenda olw’omwezi ogwokuna ogw’omwaka ogw’ekkumi n’ogumu ogw’obufuzi kwa Zeddekiya, ekisenge ky’ekibuga kyabotolwa. 3 (B)Awo Nerugalusalezeeri, ne Samugaluneebo, ne Salusekimu, ne Labusalisi, ne Nerugalusalezeeri, ne Labumagi, n’abakungu abalala bonna aba kabaka w’e Babulooni ne bajja ne batuula mu mulyango ogwa wakati ogwa Yerusaalemi. 4 Awo Zeddekiya kabaka wa Yuda n’abaserikale be bonna bwe babalaba ne bava mu kibuga kiro ne badduka; ne bayita mu nnimiro ya kabaka, nga bayita mu mulyango wakati w’ebisenge ebibiri, ne boolekera Alaba.
5 (C)Naye eggye ly’Abakaludaaya ne libagoba ne lisanga Zeddekiya mu nsenyi ez’e Yeriko, ne bamuwamba, ne bamuleeta eri kabaka Nebukadduneeza ow’e Babulooni e Libuna mu nsi y’e Kamasi; n’amusalira eyo omusango. 6 Kabaka w’e Babulooni n’attira batabani ba Zeddekiya mu maaso ga kitaabwe e Libuna, era kabaka w’e Babulooni n’atta abakungu ba Yuda bonna. 7 (D)Nebukadduneeza n’aggyamu Zeddekiya amaaso, n’amusiba mu masamba n’amutwala e Babulooni.
8 (E)Abakaludaaya ne bookya ennyumba ya kabaka n’ennyumba z’abantu, ne bamenya n’ebisenge bya Yerusaalemi. 9 (F)Awo Nebuzaladaani omuduumizi w’eggye n’atwala abantu abaali basigaddewo mu kibuga, n’abo abaali bamwegasseeko, n’abo abaali basigaddewo mu bifo ebirala, e Babulooni. 10 Nebuzaladaani omuduumizi w’eggye, n’aleka abamu ku bantu abaavu abaali batalina kantu, mu nsi ya Yuda; n’abawa ebibanja n’ennimiro z’emizabbibu.
11 Awo Nebukadduneeza kabaka w’e Babulooni yali awadde Nebuzaladaani omuduumizi w’eggye lya kabaka w’e Babulooni, ebiragiro bino ebikwata ku Yeremiya ng’amugamba nti, 12 (G)“Mmutwale omulabirire: tomubonyaabonya wabula mukolere byonna by’ayagala.” 13 Awo Nebuzaladaani omuduumizi w’eggye, ne Nebusazibaani omukungu ow’oku ntikko ne Nerugalusalezeeri, ne Labumagi, n’abakungu bonna aba kabaka w’e Babulooni, 14 (H)ne batumya ne baggya Yeremiya mu luggya lw’abaserikale. Ne bamukwasa Gedaliya mutabani wa Akikamu, mutabani wa Safani, amuzzeeyo ewaabwe. Olwo n’asigala n’abantu be.
15 Yeremiya bwe yali asibiddwa mu luggya lw’abaserikale abakuumi, ekigambo kya Mukama ne kimujjira nga kigamba nti, 16 (I)“Genda ogambe Ebedumeleki Omuwesiyopya nti, ‘Bw’ati bw’ayogera Mukama ow’Eggye, Katonda wa Isirayiri nti, Nnaatera okutuukiriza ebigambo byange eri ekibuga kino nga nkozesa ebibonoobono, si kukulaakulana. Mu biseera ebyo birituukirizibwa nga mulaba n’amaaso gammwe. 17 (J)Naye ndikuwonya ku lunaku olwo,’ bw’ayogera Mukama; ‘toliweebwayo eri abo b’otya. 18 (K)Ndikuwonya; tolittibwa, olisigala ng’oli mulamu, kubanga onneesiga, bw’ayogera Mukama.’ ”

39 1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah(A) king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar(B) king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his whole army and laid siege(C) to it. 2 And on the ninth day of the fourth(D) month of Zedekiah’s eleventh year, the city wall(E) was broken through.(F) 3 Then all the officials(G) of the king of Babylon came and took seats in the Middle Gate: Nergal-Sharezer of Samgar, Nebo-Sarsekim a chief officer, Nergal-Sharezer a high official and all the other officials of the king of Babylon. 4 When Zedekiah king of Judah and all the soldiers saw them, they fled; they left the city at night by way of the king’s garden, through the gate between the two walls,(H) and headed toward the Arabah.[a](I)
5 But the Babylonian[b] army pursued them and overtook Zedekiah(J) in the plains of Jericho. They captured(K) him and took him to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon at Riblah(L) in the land of Hamath, where he pronounced sentence on him. 6 There at Riblah the king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes and also killed all the nobles(M) of Judah. 7 Then he put out Zedekiah’s eyes(N) and bound him with bronze shackles to take him to Babylon.(O)
8 The Babylonians[c] set fire(P) to the royal palace and the houses of the people and broke down the walls(Q) of Jerusalem. 9 Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard carried into exile to Babylon the people who remained in the city, along with those who had gone over to him,(R) and the rest of the people.(S) 10 But Nebuzaradan the commander of the guard left behind in the land of Judah some of the poor people, who owned nothing; and at that time he gave them vineyards and fields.
11 Now Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had given these orders about Jeremiah through Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard: 12 “Take him and look after him; don’t harm(T) him but do for him whatever he asks.” 13 So Nebuzaradan the commander of the guard, Nebushazban a chief officer, Nergal-Sharezer a high official and all the other officers(U) of the king of Babylon 14 sent and had Jeremiah taken out of the courtyard of the guard.(V) They turned him over to Gedaliah(W) son of Ahikam,(X) the son of Shaphan,(Y) to take him back to his home. So he remained among his own people.(Z)
15 While Jeremiah had been confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the Lord came to him: 16 “Go and tell Ebed-Melek(AA) the Cushite, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I am about to fulfill my words(AB) against this city—words concerning disaster,(AC) not prosperity. At that time they will be fulfilled before your eyes. 17 But I will rescue(AD) you on that day, declares the Lord; you will not be given into the hands of those you fear. 18 I will save(AE) you; you will not fall by the sword(AF) but will escape with your life,(AG) because you trust(AH) in me, declares the Lord.’”

39 (A)In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem and besieged it. 2 In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, a breach was made in the city. 3 Then all (B)the officials of the king of Babylon came (C)and sat in the middle gate: Nergal-sar-ezer of Samgar, Nebu-sar-sekim (D)the Rab-saris, Nergal-sar-ezer the Rab-mag, with all the rest of the officers of the king of Babylon. 4 When Zedekiah king of Judah and all the soldiers saw them, they fled, going out of the city at night by way of the king's garden through the gate between the two walls; and they went toward (E)the Arabah. 5 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued them and overtook Zedekiah in (F)the plains of Jericho. And when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, at (G)Riblah, in the land of Hamath; (H)and he passed sentence on him. 6 The king of Babylon (I)slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah at (J)Riblah before his eyes, and the king of Babylon (K)slaughtered all the nobles of Judah. 7 (L)He put out the eyes of Zedekiah and bound him in chains to take him to Babylon. 8 (M)The Chaldeans burned the king's house and the house of the people, (N)and broke down the walls of Jerusalem. 9 Then (O)Nebuzaradan, the (P)captain of the guard, carried into exile to Babylon the rest of the people who were left in the city, (Q)those who had deserted to him, and the people who remained. 10 Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, (R)left in the land of Judah some of the poor people who owned nothing, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.
The Lord Delivers Jeremiah
11 Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon gave command concerning Jeremiah through Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, saying, 12 (S)“Take him, look after him well, and do him no harm, but deal with him as he tells you.” 13 So (T)Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, Nebushazban the Rab-saris, Nergal-sar-ezer the Rab-mag, (U)and all the chief officers of the king of Babylon 14 sent and took Jeremiah from (V)the court of the guard. They entrusted him to (W)Gedaliah the son of (X)Ahikam, son of (Y)Shaphan, that he should take him home. So (Z)he lived among the people.
15 The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah (AA)while he was shut up in the court of the guard: 16 “Go, and say to (AB)Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: (AC)Behold, I will fulfill my words against this city for harm and (AD)not for good, and they shall be accomplished before you on that day. 17 But I will deliver you on that day, declares the Lord, and you shall not be given into the hand of the men (AE)of whom you are afraid. 18 For I will surely save you, and you shall not fall by the sword, but you shall have your (AF)life as a prize of war, (AG)because you have put your trust in me, declares the Lord.’”
