1 Santiago[a](A), siervo de Dios(B) y del Señor Jesucristo(C):
A las doce tribus(D) que están en la dispersión[b](E): Saludos(F).
Fe y sabiduría
2 Tengan por sumo gozo(G), hermanos míos, cuando se hallen en[c] diversas pruebas[d](H), 3 sabiendo que la prueba(I) de su fe(J) produce paciencia[e](K), 4 y que la paciencia[f](L) tenga su perfecto resultado[g], para que sean perfectos[h](M) y completos, sin que nada les falte.
5 Y si a alguno de ustedes le falta sabiduría(N), que se la pida a Dios, quien da a todos abundantemente y sin reproche[i], y le será dada(O). 6 Pero que pida con fe(P), sin dudar(Q). Porque el que duda es semejante a la ola del mar, impulsada por el viento y echada de una parte a otra(R). 7 No piense, pues, ese hombre, que recibirá cosa alguna del Señor, 8 siendo hombre de doble ánimo[j](S), inestable en todos sus caminos(T).
Lo transitorio de las riquezas
9 Pero que el hermano de condición humilde se gloríe en su alta posición(U), 10 y el rico en su humillación, pues él pasará como la flor de la hierba(V). 11 Porque el sol sale con calor abrasador(W) y seca la hierba(X), y su flor se cae y la hermosura de su apariencia perece. Así también se marchitará el rico en medio de sus empresas.
La tentación explicada
12 Bienaventurado el hombre que persevera(Y) bajo la prueba, porque una vez que ha sido aprobado, recibirá la corona de la vida(Z) que el Señor ha prometido(AA) a los que lo aman(AB). 13 Que nadie diga cuando es tentado: «Soy tentado por[k] Dios(AC)». Porque Dios no puede ser tentado por el mal[l] y Él mismo no tienta a nadie. 14 Sino que cada uno es tentado cuando es llevado y seducido por su propia pasión[m]. 15 Después, cuando la pasión[n] ha concebido(AD), da a luz el pecado; y cuando el pecado es consumado(AE), engendra la muerte.
16 Amados hermanos míos(AF), no se engañen(AG). 17 Toda buena dádiva y todo don perfecto viene[o] de lo alto(AH), desciende del Padre de las luces(AI), con el cual no hay cambio(AJ) ni sombra de variación. 18 En el ejercicio de Su voluntad(AK), Él nos hizo nacer(AL) por la palabra de verdad(AM), para que fuéramos las[p] primicias de sus criaturas(AN).
Hacedores de la palabra
19 Esto lo saben(AO), mis amados hermanos(AP). Pero que cada uno sea pronto para oír, tardo para hablar(AQ), tardo para la ira(AR); 20 pues la ira del hombre no obra la justicia de Dios(AS). 21 Por lo cual, desechando toda inmundicia(AT) y todo resto de malicia[q], reciban ustedes con humildad la palabra implantada(AU), que es poderosa para salvar sus almas.
22 Sean hacedores de la palabra(AV) y no solamente oidores que se engañan a sí mismos. 23 Porque si alguien es oidor de la palabra, y no hacedor, es semejante a un hombre que mira su rostro natural[r] en un espejo(AW); 24 pues después de mirarse a sí mismo e irse, inmediatamente[s] se olvida de qué clase de persona es. 25 Pero el que mira atentamente[t] a la ley perfecta, la ley de la libertad(AX), y permanece en ella, no habiéndose vuelto un oidor olvidadizo sino un hacedor eficaz[u], este será bienaventurado en lo que hace[v](AY).
26 Si alguien se cree religioso, pero no refrena su lengua(AZ), sino que engaña a su propio corazón, la religión del tal es vana. 27 La religión pura y sin mancha delante de nuestro Dios y Padre(BA) es esta: visitar(BB) a los huérfanos(BC) y a las viudas en sus aflicciones[w], y guardarse sin mancha del mundo(BD).

Greetings.
Testing of Your Faith
2 (E)Count it all joy, my brothers,[b] when you meet trials (F)of various kinds, 3 for you know that (G)the testing of your faith (H)produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be (I)perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
5 (J)If any of you lacks wisdom, (K)let him ask God, (L)who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But (M)let him ask in faith, (N)with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like (O)a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 (P)he is a double-minded man, (Q)unstable in all his ways.
9 Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, 10 and (R)the rich in his humiliation, because (S)like a flower of the grass[c] he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with its scorching heat and (T)withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.
12 (U)Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive (V)the crown of life, (W)which God has promised to those who love him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire (X)when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and (Y)sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. 17 (Z)Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from (AA)the Father of lights, (AB)with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.[d] 18 (AC)Of his own will he (AD)brought us forth by the word of truth, (AE)that we should be a kind of (AF)firstfruits of his creatures.
Hearing and Doing the Word
19 (AG)Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person (AH)be quick to hear, (AI)slow to speak, (AJ)slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore (AK)put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with (AL)meekness the implanted word, (AM)which is able to save your souls.
22 But be (AN)doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, (AO)the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, (AP)he will be blessed in his doing.
26 If anyone thinks he is religious (AQ)and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's (AR)religion is worthless. 27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: (AS)to visit (AT)orphans and widows in their affliction, and (AU)to keep oneself (AV)unstained from the world.

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

1 Jakobus, Knecht Gottes und des Herrn Jesus Christus, grüßt die zwölf Stämme, die in der Zerstreuung sind!
Vom verborgenen Segen in Anfechtungen und Versuchungen
2 Meine Brüder, achtet es für lauter Freude, wenn ihr in mancherlei Anfechtungen geratet, 3 da ihr ja wisset, daß die Bewährung eures Glaubens Geduld[a] wirkt. 4 Die Gedulda aber soll ein vollkommenes Werk haben, damit ihr vollkommen und ganz seiet und es euch an nichts mangle.
5 Wenn aber jemandem unter euch Weisheit mangelt, so erbitte er sie von Gott, der allen gern und ohne Vorwurf gibt, so wird sie ihm gegeben werden. 6 Er bitte aber im Glauben und zweifle nicht; denn wer zweifelt, gleicht der Meereswoge, die vom Winde hin und her getrieben wird. 7 Ein solcher Mensch denke nicht, daß er etwas von dem Herrn empfangen werde. 8 Ein Mann mit geteiltem Herzen ist unbeständig in allen seinen Wegen. -
9 Der Bruder aber, welcher niedrig gestellt ist, soll sich seiner Hoheit rühmen, 10 der Reiche dagegen seiner Niedrigkeit; denn wie eine Blume des Grases wird er vergehen. 11 Denn kaum ist die Sonne mit ihrer Hitze aufgegangen, so verdorrt das Gras, und seine Blume fällt ab, und seine schöne Gestalt vergeht; so wird auch der Reiche in seinen Wegen verwelken. -
12 Selig ist der Mann, der die Anfechtung erduldet; denn nachdem er sich bewährt hat, wird er die Krone des Lebens empfangen, welche Gott denen verheißen hat, die ihn lieben!
13 Niemand sage, wenn er versucht wird: Ich werde von Gott versucht. Denn Gott ist unangefochten vom Bösen; er selbst versucht aber auch niemand. 14 Sondern ein jeder wird versucht, wenn er von seiner eigenen Lust gereizt und gelockt wird. 15 Darnach, wenn die Lust empfangen hat, gebiert sie die Sünde; die Sünde aber, wenn sie vollendet ist, gebiert den Tod.
16 Irret euch nicht, meine lieben Brüder: 17 Jede gute Gabe und jedes vollkommene Geschenk kommt von oben herab, von dem Vater der Lichter, bei welchem keine Veränderung ist, noch ein Schatten infolge von Wechsel. 18 Nach seinem Willen hat er uns erzeugt durch das Wort der Wahrheit, damit wir gleichsam Erstlinge seiner Geschöpfe seien.
Täter des Wortes Gottes, nicht Hörer allein
19 Darum, meine geliebten Brüder, sei jeder Mensch schnell zum Hören, langsam aber zum Reden, langsam zum Zorn; 20 denn des Menschen Zorn wirkt nicht Gottes Gerechtigkeit! 21 Darum leget allen Schmutz und Vorrat von Bosheit ab und nehmet mit Sanftmut das [euch] eingepflanzte Wort auf, welches eure Seelen retten kann!
22 Seid aber Täter des Wortes und nicht Hörer allein, womit ihr euch selbst betrügen würdet. 23 Denn wer [nur] Hörer des Wortes ist und nicht Täter, der gleicht einem Manne, der sein natürliches Angesicht im Spiegel beschaut; 24 er betrachtet sich und läuft davon und hat bald vergessen, wie er gestaltet war. 25 Wer aber hineinschaut in das vollkommene Gesetz der Freiheit und dabei bleibt, nicht als vergeßlicher Hörer, sondern als wirklicher Täter, der wird selig sein in seinem Tun.
26 Wenn jemand fromm zu sein meint, seine Zunge aber nicht im Zaum hält, sondern sein Herz betrügt, dessen Frömmigkeit ist wertlos. 27 Reine und makellose Frömmigkeit vor Gott dem Vater ist es, Waisen und Witwen in ihrer Trübsal zu besuchen und sich von der Welt unbefleckt zu erhalten.
