Romans 8:28-9:24
New American Standard Bible
28 And we know that [a]God [b]causes (A)all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are (B)called according to His purpose. 29 For those whom He (C)foreknew, He also (D)predestined to become (E)conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the (F)firstborn among many brothers and sisters; 30 and these whom He (G)predestined, He also (H)called; and these whom He called, He also (I)justified; and these whom He justified, He also (J)glorified.
31 (K)What then shall we say to these things? (L)If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who (M)did not spare His own Son, but (N)delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? 33 Who will bring charges against (O)God’s elect? (P)God is the one who justifies; 34 who is the one who (Q)condemns? Christ Jesus is He who (R)died, but rather, was [c](S)raised, who is (T)at the right hand of God, who also (U)intercedes for us. 35 Who will separate us from (V)the love of [d]Christ? Will (W)tribulation, or trouble, or (X)persecution, or (Y)famine, or (Z)nakedness, or (AA)danger, or sword? 36 Just as it is written:
“(AB)For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We were regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly (AC)conquer through (AD)Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither (AE)death, nor life, nor (AF)angels, nor principalities, nor (AG)things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from (AH)the love of God that is (AI)in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Deep Concern for Israel
9 (AJ)I am telling the truth in Christ, I am not lying; my conscience testifies with me in the Holy Spirit, 2 that I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart. 3 For (AK)I could [e]wish that I myself were (AL)accursed, separated from Christ for the sake of my countrymen, my kinsmen (AM)according to the flesh, 4 who are (AN)Israelites, to whom belongs (AO)the adoption as sons and daughters, (AP)the glory, (AQ)the covenants, (AR)the giving of the Law, (AS)the temple service, and (AT)the promises; 5 whose are (AU)the fathers, and (AV)from whom is the [f]Christ according to the flesh, (AW)who is over all, (AX)God (AY)blessed [g]forever. Amen.
6 But it is not as though (AZ)the word of God has failed. (BA)For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel; 7 nor are they all children (BB)because they are Abraham’s [h](BC)descendants, but: “[i](BD)through Isaac your [j]descendants shall be named.” 8 That is, it is not the children of the flesh [k]who are (BE)children of God, but the (BF)children of the promise are regarded as [l](BG)descendants. 9 For this is the word of promise: “(BH)At this time I will come, and Sarah will have a son.” 10 (BI)And not only that, but there was also (BJ)Rebekah, when she had conceived twins by one man, our father Isaac; 11 for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that (BK)God’s purpose according to His choice would [m]stand, not [n]because of works but [o]because of Him who calls, 12 it was said to her, “(BL)The older will serve the younger.” 13 Just as it is written: “(BM)Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.”
14 (BN)What shall we say then? (BO)There is no injustice with God, is there? [p](BP)Far from it! 15 For He says to Moses, “(BQ)I will have mercy on whomever I have mercy, and I will show compassion to whomever I show compassion.” 16 So then, it does not depend on the person who [q]wants it nor the one who [r](BR)runs, but on (BS)God who has mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “(BT)For this very reason I raised you up, in order to demonstrate My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed [s]throughout the earth.” 18 So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He (BU)hardens whom He desires.
19 (BV)You will say to me then, “(BW)Why does He still find fault? For (BX)who has resisted His will?” 20 On the contrary, who are you, [t](BY)you foolish person, who (BZ)answers back to God? (CA)The thing molded will not say to the molder, “Why did you make me like this,” will it? 21 Or does the potter not have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one object [u]for honorable use, and another [v]for common use? 22 [w]What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with great (CB)patience objects of wrath (CC)prepared for destruction? 23 And He did so to make known (CD)the riches of His glory upon (CE)objects of mercy, which He (CF)prepared beforehand for glory, 24 namely us, whom He also (CG)called, (CH)not only from among Jews, but also from among Gentiles,
