knowing this, that (A)our old man was crucified with Him, that (B)the body of sin might be [a]done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For (C)he who has died has been [b]freed from sin. Now (D)if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that (E)Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, (F)He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, (G)He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, [c]reckon yourselves to be (H)dead indeed to sin, but (I)alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

12 (J)Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present your (K)members as [d]instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but (L)present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For (M)sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

For (A)those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, (B)the things of the Spirit. For (C)to be [a]carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because (D)the [b]carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, (E)nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of (F)Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, (G)He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies [c]through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Sonship Through the Spirit

12 (H)Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For (I)if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you (J)put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. (A)Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor [a]homosexuals, nor [b]sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were (B)some of you. (C)But you were washed, but you were [c]sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Walking in the Spirit

16 I say then: (A)Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For (B)the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, (C)so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But (D)if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 Now (E)the works of the flesh are evident, which are: [a]adultery, [b]fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, [c]murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that (F)those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But (G)the fruit of the Spirit is (H)love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, (I)goodness, (J)faithfulness, 23 [d]gentleness, self-control. (K)Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s (L)have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 (M)If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 (N)Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Walk in Love

Therefore(A) be imitators of God as dear (B)children. And (C)walk in love, (D)as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God (E)for a sweet-smelling aroma.

But fornication and all (F)uncleanness or (G)covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; (H)neither filthiness, nor (I)foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, (J)which are not fitting, but rather (K)giving of thanks. For [a]this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any (L)inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be (M)partakers with them.

Walk in Light

For you were once darkness, but now you are (N)light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for (O)the fruit of the [b]Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 (P)finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have (Q)no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather [c]expose them. 12 (R)For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But (S)all things that are [d]exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14 Therefore He says:

(T)“Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light.”

Walk in Wisdom

15 (U)See then that you walk [e]circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 (V)redeeming the time, (W)because the days are evil.

[a]Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that (A)friendship with the world is enmity with God? (B)Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, (C)“The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?

But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:

(D)“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”

Humility Cures Worldliness

Therefore submit to God. (E)Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (F)Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (G)Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and (H)purify your hearts, you double-minded.
