³ concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who ^[a]was ^(A)born of the seed of David according to the flesh, ⁴ and ^(B)declared to be the Son of God with power according ^(C)to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.

²³ for ^(A)all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ²⁴ being justified ^[a]freely ^(B)by His grace ^(C)through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, ²⁵ whom God set forth ^(D)as a ^[b]propitiation ^(E)by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over ^(F)the sins that were previously committed, ²⁶ to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Christ in Our Place

⁶ For when we were still without strength, ^[a]in due time ^(A)Christ died for the ungodly. ⁷ For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. ⁸ But ^(B)God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ⁹ Much more then, having now been justified ^(C)by His blood, we shall be saved ^(D)from wrath through Him. ¹⁰ For ^(E)if when we were enemies ^(F)we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved ^(G)by His life. ¹¹ And not only that, but we also ^(H)rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

Death in Adam, Life in Christ^(I)

¹² Therefore, just as ^(J)through one man sin entered the world, and ^(K)death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned— ¹³ (For until the law sin was in the world, but ^(L)sin is not imputed when there is no law. ¹⁴ Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, ^(M)who is a type of Him who was to come. ¹⁵ But the free gift is not like the ^[b]offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded ^(N)to many. ¹⁶ And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many ^[c]offenses resulted in justification. ¹⁷ For if by the one man’s ^[d]offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)

¹⁸ Therefore, as through ^[e]one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through ^(O)one^[f] Man’s righteous act the free gift came ^(P)to all men, resulting in justification of life. ¹⁹ For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by ^(Q)one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

²⁰ Moreover ^(R)the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace ^(S)abounded much more, ²¹ so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Free from Indwelling Sin

8 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, ^(A)who^[a] do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. ² For ^(B)the law of ^(C)the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from ^(D)the law of sin and death. ³ For ^(E)what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, ^(F)God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,

^34 (A)Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, ^(B)who is even at the right hand of God, ^(C)who also makes intercession for us.

⁴ For ^(A)Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
