¹⁶ The Spirit himself testifies together with our spirit^(A) that we are God’s children, ¹⁷ and if children, also heirs^(B)—heirs of God and coheirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with him^(C) so that we may also be glorified with him.

⁶ And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son^(A) into our^[a] hearts, crying, “Abba,^[b] Father!” ^(B)

God’s Commands

³ This is how we know^(A) that we know him: if we keep his commands.^(B)

¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our brothers and sisters. The one who does not love remains in death.^(A)

¹⁸ Little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in action and in truth.^(A)

¹⁹ This is how we will know that we belong to the truth^(B) and will reassure our hearts before him
