20 Maar als u niet eerlijk hebt gehandeld, dan hoop ik dat er vuur uit Abimelech zal komen en u zal vernietigen en dat er vuur uit u zal komen dat Abimelech zal vernietigen!’
21 Toen vluchtte Jotham naar Beër, waar hij uit angst voor zijn halfbroer Abimelech bleef wonen. 22,23 Nadat Abimelech drie jaar over Israël had geregeerd, stuurde God een boze geest die moeilijkheden veroorzaakte tussen Abimelech en de burgers van Sichem, waardoor zij hem ontrouw werden.
