The Seventh Seal and the Golden Censer

8 When the Lamb opened ^(A)the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. ² Then I saw the seven angels ^(B)who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them. ³ And another angel came and stood ^(C)at the altar with a golden censer, and he was given much incense to offer with ^(D)the prayers of all the saints on ^(E)the golden altar before the throne, ⁴ and ^(F)the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel. ⁵ Then the angel took the censer and ^(G)filled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth, and ^(H)there were peals of ^(I)thunder, rumblings,^[a] flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

The Fall of Jericho

6 Now Jericho was shut up inside and outside because of the people of Israel. None went out, and none came in. ² And the Lord said to Joshua, “See, ^(A)I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and mighty men of valor. ³ You shall march around the city, all the men of war going around the city once. Thus shall you do for six days. ⁴ Seven priests shall bear seven ^(B)trumpets of ^(C)rams' horns before the ark. On the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and ^(D)the priests shall blow the trumpets. ⁵ And when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, then all the people shall shout with a great shout, and the wall of the city will fall down flat,^[a] and the people shall go up, everyone straight before him.”

⁹ and said to the men, “I know that the Lord has given you the land, ^(A)and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land ^(B)melt away before you. ¹⁰ For we have heard how the Lord ^(C)dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and ^(D)what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to ^(E)Sihon and Og, whom you devoted to destruction.^{[a] 11} And ^(F)as soon as we heard it, ^(G)our hearts melted, and there was no spirit left in any man because of you, for ^(H)the Lord your God, he is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath.
