⁹ When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under^(A) the altar^(B) the souls of those who had been slain^(C) because of the word of God^(D) and the testimony they had maintained.

⁵ Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar,^(A) and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder,^(B) rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.^(C)

⁷ And I heard the altar^(A) respond:
