²I know thy works and [thy] labour, and thine endurance, and that thou canst not bear evil [men]; and thou hast tried them who say that themselves [are] apostles and are not, and hast found them liars;

³and endurest, and hast borne for my name's sake, and hast not wearied:

⁴but I have against thee, that thou hast left thy first love.

²I know your deeds,^(A) your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested^(B) those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false.^(C) ³You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name,^(D) and have not grown weary.

⁴Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.^(E)
