Then the (A)fifth angel sounded. Then I saw a (B)star from heaven which had fallen to the earth, and the (C)key of the (D)pit of the abyss was given to him. And he opened the pit of the abyss and (E)smoke went up out of the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace, and (F)the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the pit. Then out of the smoke came (G)locusts [a]upon the earth, and power was given them, as the (H)scorpions of the earth have power. And they were told not to (I)hurt the (J)grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the (K)seal of God on their foreheads. And [b]they were not permitted to kill [c]anyone, but to torment for (L)five months, and their torment was like the torment of a (M)scorpion when it [d]stings a man. And in those days (N)men will seek death and will never find it; they will long to die, and death flees from them.

And the [e](O)appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. And on their heads appeared to be crowns like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men. And they had hair like the hair of women, and their (P)teeth were like the teeth of lions. And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the (Q)sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots, of many horses running to battle. 10 And they have tails like (R)scorpions, and stings; and in their (S)tails is their power to hurt men for (T)five months. 11 They have as king over them, the angel of the (U)abyss. His name in (V)Hebrew is [f](W)Abaddon, and in the Greek he has the name [g]Apollyon.

12 (X)One woe is past; behold, two woes are still coming after these things.

13 Then the sixth angel sounded, and I heard [h]a voice from the [i]four (Y)horns of the (Z)golden altar which is before God, 14 one saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the (AA)four angels who have been bound at the (AB)great river Euphrates.” 15 And the four angels were (AC)released, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, so that they would kill a (AD)third of [j]mankind. 16 And the number of the armies of the horsemen was (AE)two hundred million; (AF)I heard the number of them. 17 And [k]this is how I saw (AG)in the vision the horses and those who sit on them: the riders had breastplates the color of fire and of hyacinth and of [l](AH)brimstone; and the heads of the horses are like the heads of lions; and (AI)out of their mouths come fire and smoke and [m](AJ)brimstone. 18 A (AK)third of [n]mankind was killed by these three plagues, by the (AL)fire and the smoke and the [o]brimstone which came out of their mouths. 19 For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails are like serpents, having heads, and with them they do harm.

20 And the rest of [p]mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, (AM)did not repent of (AN)the works of their hands, so as not to (AO)worship demons, and (AP)the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. 21 And they (AQ)did not repent of their murders nor of their (AR)sorceries nor of their (AS)sexual immorality nor of their thefts.

The Angel and the Little Scroll

10 Then I saw another (AT)strong angel (AU)coming down out of heaven, clothed with a cloud, and the (AV)rainbow was upon his head, and (AW)his face was like the sun, and his (AX)feet like pillars of fire; and he had in his hand a (AY)little scroll which was open. He placed (AZ)his right foot on the sea and his left on the earth, and he cried out with a loud voice, (BA)as when a lion roars. And when he had cried out, the (BB)seven peals of thunder [q]uttered their voices. And when the seven peals of thunder had spoken, (BC)I was about to write; and I (BD)heard a voice from heaven saying, “(BE)Seal up the things which the seven peals of thunder have spoken and do not write them.” Then the angel, whom I saw standing on the sea and on the earth, (BF)lifted up his right hand to heaven, (BG)and swore by (BH)Him who lives forever and ever, (BI)who created heaven and the things in it, and the earth and the things in it, and the sea and the things in it, that (BJ)there will be delay no longer, but in the days of the voice of the (BK)seventh angel, when he is about to sound, then (BL)the mystery of God is finished, as He proclaimed good news to His slaves, the prophets.

Then (BM)the voice which I heard from heaven, I heard again speaking with me, and saying, “Go, take (BN)the scroll which is open in the hand of the angel who (BO)stands on the sea and on the earth.” So I went to the angel, telling him to give me the little scroll. And he *said to me, “(BP)Take it and eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.” 10 And I took the little scroll out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and in my mouth it was sweet as honey; and when I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter. 11 And (BQ)they *said to me, “You must (BR)prophesy again about (BS)many peoples and nations and tongues and (BT)kings.”

The Two Witnesses

11 Then a [r](BU)measuring rod like a staff was given to me, (BV)saying, “Get up and measure the sanctuary of God and the altar, and those who worship in it. And [s]leave out the (BW)court which is outside the sanctuary and do not measure it, for (BX)it has been given to the Gentiles, and they will (BY)trample (BZ)the holy city under foot for (CA)forty-two months. And I will give authority to my two (CB)witnesses, and they will prophesy for (CC)1,260 days, clothed in (CD)sackcloth.” These are the (CE)two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. And if anyone wishes to harm them, (CF)fire comes out of their mouth and devours their enemies; so if anyone wishes to harm them, (CG)he must be killed in this way. These have the authority to (CH)shut up the sky, so that rain will not fall during (CI)the days of their prophesying; they also have authority over the waters to (CJ)turn them into blood, and (CK)to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they wish.

And when they have finished their witness, (CL)the beast that comes up out of the (CM)abyss will (CN)make war with them and overcome them and kill them. And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the (CO)great city which spiritually is called (CP)Sodom and (CQ)Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. And those from (CR)the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations will look at their dead [t]bodies for three and a half days, and [u](CS)will not permit their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb. 10 And (CT)those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and celebrate and (CU)send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented (CV)those who dwell on the earth.

11 But after the three and a half days, (CW)the breath of life from God came into them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell upon those who were watching them. 12 And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “(CX)Come up here.” Then they (CY)went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies watched them. 13 And in that hour there was a great (CZ)earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell; [v]seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and (DA)gave glory to the (DB)God of heaven.

14 The second (DC)woe is past; behold, the third woe is coming quickly.

The Seventh Trumpet

15 Then the (DD)seventh angel sounded, and there were (DE)loud voices in heaven, saying,

(DF)The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of (DG)His [w]Christ, and (DH)He will reign forever and ever.” 16 And the twenty-four elders, who (DI)sit on their thrones before God, (DJ)fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying,

“We give You thanks, (DK)O Lord God, the Almighty, who is and who was, because You have taken Your great power and have begun to (DL)reign. 18 And (DM)the nations were enraged, and (DN)Your rage came, and (DO)the time came for the dead to be judged, and to give reward to Your (DP)slaves—the prophets and the saints and those who fear Your name, (DQ)the small and the great—and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”

19 And (DR)the sanctuary of God which is in heaven was opened, and (DS)the ark of His covenant appeared in His sanctuary, and there were flashes of (DT)lightning and sounds and peals of thunder and an earthquake and a (DU)great [x]hailstorm.

The Woman, the Child, and the Dragon

12 And a great (DV)sign appeared (DW)in heaven: (DX)a woman (DY)clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. And she was with child, and she *(DZ)cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth. Then (EA)another sign appeared in heaven: and behold, a great red (EB)dragon having (EC)seven heads and (ED)ten horns, and on his heads were (EE)seven diadems. And his tail *swept away a (EF)third of the stars of heaven and (EG)threw them to the earth. And the (EH)dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she gave birth (EI)he might devour her child. And (EJ)she gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to [y](EK)rule all the [z]nations with a rod of iron; and her child was (EL)caught up to God and to His throne. Then the woman fled into the wilderness where she *had a place prepared by God, so that there [aa]she would be nourished for (EM)1,260 days.

War in Heaven

And there was war in heaven, (EN)Michael and his angels waging war with the (EO)dragon. The dragon and (EP)his angels waged war, and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. And the great (EQ)dragon was thrown down, the (ER)serpent of old who is called the devil and (ES)Satan, who (ET)deceives the whole [ab]world. He was (EU)thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 Then I heard (EV)a loud voice in heaven, saying,

“Now the (EW)salvation, and the power, and the (EX)kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the (EY)accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. 11 And they (EZ)overcame him because of (FA)the blood of the Lamb and because of (FB)the word of their witness, and they (FC)did not love their life even to death. 12 For this reason, (FD)rejoice, O heavens and (FE)you who [ac]dwell in them. (FF)Woe to the earth and the sea, because (FG)the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only (FH)a short time.”

13 And when the (FI)dragon saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted (FJ)the woman who gave birth to the male child. 14 But the (FK)two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, so that she could fly (FL)into the wilderness to her place, where she *was nourished for (FM)a time and times and half a time, from the [ad]presence of the serpent. 15 And the (FN)serpent [ae]poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, so that he might cause her to be swept away with the flood. 16 [af]But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and drank up the river which the dragon [ag]poured out of his mouth. 17 So the dragon was enraged with the woman and went off to (FO)make war with the rest of her (FP)seed, who (FQ)keep the commandments of God and (FR)have the witness of Jesus.

The Beast from the Sea

13 And the [ah]dragon stood on the sand of the [ai]seashore.

Then I saw a (FS)beast coming up out of the sea, having (FT)ten horns and (FU)seven heads, and on his horns were (FV)ten diadems, and on his heads were (FW)blasphemous names. And the beast which I saw was (FX)like a leopard, and his feet were like those of (FY)a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of (FZ)a lion. And the (GA)dragon gave him his power and his (GB)throne and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as if it had been [aj]slain fatally, and his (GC)fatal wound was healed. And the whole earth (GD)marveled and followed after the beast. And they worshiped the (GE)dragon because he (GF)gave his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “(GG)Who is like the beast, and who is able to wage war with him?” And there was given to him a mouth (GH)speaking [ak]great boasts and blasphemies, and authority to act for (GI)forty-two months was given to him. And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, that is, (GJ)those who [al]dwell in heaven.

And it was also given to him to (GK)make war with the saints and to overcome them, and authority over (GL)every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to him. And all who (GM)dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone (GN)whose name has not been [am]written (GO)from the foundation of the world in the (GP)book of life of (GQ)the Lamb who has been slain. (GR)If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10 (GS)If anyone [an]is destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; (GT)if anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is (GU)the perseverance and the faith of the saints.

The Beast from the Earth

11 Then (GV)I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had (GW)two horns like a lamb and he was speaking as a (GX)dragon. 12 And he (GY)exercises all the authority of the first beast [ao](GZ)in his presence. And he makes (HA)the earth and those who dwell in it to (HB)worship the first beast, whose (HC)fatal wound was healed. 13 And he (HD)does great signs, so that he even makes (HE)fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the presence of men. 14 And he (HF)deceives (HG)those who dwell on the earth because of (HH)the signs which were given to him to do [ap](HI)in the presence of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who *had the (HJ)wound of the sword and has come to life. 15 And it was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would even [aq]speak and cause (HK)as many as do not (HL)worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 And he causes all, (HM)the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, that they [ar]be given a (HN)mark on their right hand or on their forehead, 17 and that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the (HO)mark, either (HP)the name of the beast or (HQ)the number of his name. 18 (HR)Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number (HS)of man; and his number is [as]666.

The Lamb and the 144,000

14 Then I looked, and behold, (HT)the Lamb was standing on (HU)Mount Zion, and with Him (HV)144,000, having (HW)His name and the (HX)name of His Father written (HY)on their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, like (HZ)the sound of many waters and like the (IA)sound of loud thunder, and the voice which I heard was like the sound of (IB)harpists playing on their harps. And they *[at]sang (IC)a new song before the throne and before the (ID)four living creatures and the (IE)elders. And (IF)no one could learn that song except the (IG)144,000 who had been (IH)purchased from the earth. (II)These are the ones who are not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who (IJ)follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These have been (IK)purchased from among men (IL)as first fruits to God and to the Lamb. And (IM)no lie was found in their mouth; they are (IN)blameless.

The Messages of the Three Angels

Then I saw another angel flying in (IO)midheaven, having (IP)an eternal gospel to proclaim to (IQ)those who [au]inhabit the earth, and to (IR)every nation and tribe and tongue and people. And he said with a loud voice, “(IS)Fear God, and (IT)give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; worship Him who (IU)made the heaven and the earth and sea and (IV)springs of waters.”

And another angel, a second one, followed, saying, “[av](IW)Fallen, fallen is (IX)Babylon the great, she who has (IY)made all the nations drink of the (IZ)wine of the wrath of her [aw]sexual immorality.”

Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone (JA)worships the beast and his (JB)image, and receives a (JC)mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 and he also will drink of the (JD)wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed [ax]in full strength (JE)in the cup of His rage, and he will be tormented with (JF)fire and [ay]brimstone in the presence of the (JG)holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the (JH)smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; (JI)they have no rest day and night, those who (JJ)worship the beast and his (JK)image, and [az]whoever receives the (JL)mark of his name.” 12 Here is (JM)the perseverance of the saints who (JN)keep the commandments of God and [ba](JO)their faith in Jesus.

13 And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, “Write, ‘(JP)Blessed are the dead who (JQ)die in the Lord from now on!’” “Yes,” (JR)says the Spirit, “so that they may (JS)rest from their labors, for their (JT)deeds follow with them.”

Reaping the Earth’s Harvest

14 Then I looked, and behold, a (JU)white cloud, and sitting on the cloud was one (JV)like [bb]a son of man, having a golden (JW)crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand. 15 And another angel (JX)came out of the sanctuary, crying out with a loud voice to Him who sits on the cloud, “[bc](JY)Put in Your sickle and reap, for the hour to reap has come, because the (JZ)harvest of the earth [bd]is ripe.” 16 Then He who sits on the cloud [be]swung His sickle over the earth, and the earth was reaped.

17 And another angel (KA)came out of the sanctuary which is in heaven, and he also had a sharp sickle. 18 Then another angel, (KB)the one who has authority over fire, came out from (KC)the altar; and he called with a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, “[bf](KD)Put in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters [bg]from the vine of the earth, (KE)because her grapes are ripe.” 19 So the angel [bh]swung his sickle to the earth and gathered the clusters from the vine of the earth, and threw them into (KF)the great wine press of the wrath of God. 20 And (KG)the wine press was trodden (KH)outside the city, and (KI)blood came out from the wine press, up to the horses’ bridles, [bi]for a distance of [bj]1,600 stadia.

Seven Angels, Seven Plagues

15 Then I saw (KJ)another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, (KK)seven angels who have (KL)seven plagues, which are (KM)the last, because in them the wrath of God is finished.

Then I saw something like a (KN)sea of glass mixed with fire, and those who have (KO)overcome [bk]the (KP)beast and (KQ)his image and the (KR)number of his name, standing on the (KS)sea of glass, having (KT)harps of God. And they *sang the (KU)song of Moses, (KV)the slave of God, and the (KW)song of the Lamb, saying,

(KX)Great and marvelous are Your works,
(KY)O [bl]Lord God, the Almighty;
Righteous and true are Your ways,
(KZ)King of the [bm]nations!
(LA)Who will not fear, O [bn]Lord, and glorify Your name?
For You alone are holy;
For (LB)all the nations will come and worship before You,
For Your [bo](LC)righteous acts have been revealed.”

And after these things I looked, and (LD)the sanctuary of the (LE)tabernacle of testimony in heaven was opened, and the (LF)seven angels who have the seven plagues (LG)came out of the sanctuary, clothed in [bp]linen, clean and bright, and (LH)girded around their chests with golden sashes. Then one of the (LI)four living creatures gave to the (LJ)seven angels seven (LK)golden bowls full of the (LL)wrath of God, who (LM)lives forever and ever. And the sanctuary was filled with (LN)smoke from the glory of God and from His power; and no one was able to enter the sanctuary until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished.

The Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath

16 Then I heard a loud voice from (LO)the sanctuary, saying to the (LP)seven angels, “Go and (LQ)pour out [bq]on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.”

So the first angel went and poured out his bowl [br](LR)on the earth; and it became a loathsome and malignant (LS)sore on the [bs]people (LT)who have the mark of the beast and who worship his image.

And the second angel poured out his bowl (LU)into the sea, and it became blood like that of a dead man, and every living [bt]thing in the sea died.

Then the third angel poured out his bowl into the (LV)rivers and the springs of waters, and they (LW)became blood. And I heard the angel of the waters saying, “(LX)Righteous are You, (LY)who is and who was, O (LZ)Holy One, because You (MA)judged these things; for they poured out (MB)the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them (MC)blood to drink. They [bu]deserve it.” And I heard (MD)the altar saying, “Yes, O [bv](ME)Lord God, the Almighty, (MF)true and righteous are Your judgments.”

And the fourth angel poured out his bowl upon (MG)the sun, (MH)and it was given to it to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with [bw]fierce heat, and they (MI)blasphemed the name of God who has the authority over these plagues, and they (MJ)did not repent so as to (MK)give Him glory.

10 Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the (ML)throne of the beast, and his kingdom became (MM)darkened; and they gnawed their tongues because of pain, 11 and they (MN)blasphemed the (MO)God of heaven because of their pains and their (MP)sores, and they (MQ)did not repent of their deeds.

12 And the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the (MR)great river, the Euphrates, and (MS)its water was dried up, so that (MT)the way would be prepared for the kings (MU)from the [bx]east. 13 Then I saw coming out of the mouth of the (MV)dragon and out of the mouth of the (MW)beast and out of the mouth of the (MX)false prophet, three (MY)unclean spirits like (MZ)frogs; 14 for they are (NA)spirits of demons, (NB)doing signs, which go out to the kings of the (NC)whole [by]world, to (ND)gather them together for the war of the (NE)great day of God, the Almighty. 15 (“Behold, (NF)I am coming like a thief. (NG)Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his garments, (NH)so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.”) 16 And they (NI)gathered them together to the place which (NJ)in Hebrew is called [bz](NK)Har-Magedon.

The Seventh Bowl

17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl upon (NL)the air, and a (NM)loud voice came out of the (NN)sanctuary from the throne, saying, “(NO)It is done.” 18 And there were flashes of (NP)lightning and sounds and peals of thunder; and there was (NQ)a great earthquake, (NR)such as there had not been since man came to be upon the earth, so great an earthquake was it, and so mighty. 19 (NS)And the great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the [ca]nations fell. (NT)Babylon the great was (NU)remembered before God, to give her (NV)the cup of the wine of the wrath of His rage. 20 And (NW)every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And (NX)huge [cb]hailstones, about one [cc]talent each, *came down from heaven upon men; and men (NY)blasphemed God because of the (NZ)plague of the hail, because its plague *was extremely [cd]severe.

The Woman and the Beast

17 (OA)Then one of the (OB)seven angels who have the (OC)seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here, I will show you (OD)the judgment of the (OE)great harlot who (OF)sits on many waters, with whom (OG)the kings of the earth committed [ce]sexual immorality, and (OH)those who dwell on the earth were (OI)made drunk with the wine of her [cf]sexual immorality.” And (OJ)he carried me away [cg](OK)in the Spirit (OL)into a wilderness; then I saw a woman sitting on a (OM)scarlet beast, full of (ON)blasphemous names, having (OO)seven heads and ten horns. And the woman (OP)was clothed in purple and scarlet, and [ch]adorned with gold and precious [ci]stones and pearls, having in her hand (OQ)a gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her [cj]sexual immorality, and on her forehead a name was written, a (OR)mystery, “(OS)BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF (OT)THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” Then I saw the woman drunk with (OU)the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus. When I saw her, I wondered [ck]greatly. And the angel said to me, “Why [cl]do you wonder? I will tell you the (OV)mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the (OW)seven heads and the ten horns.

(OX)The beast that you saw (OY)was, and is not, and is about to (OZ)come up out of the (PA)abyss and [cm](PB)go to destruction. And (PC)those who dwell on the earth, (PD)whose name has not been written in the book of life (PE)from the foundation of the world, will (PF)wonder when they see the beast, that he was and is not and will come. (PG)Here is the mind which has wisdom. The (PH)seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits, 10 and they are seven (PI)kings; five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; and when he comes, he must remain a little while. 11 And the beast which (PJ)was and is not, is himself also an eighth and is one of the seven, and he (PK)goes to destruction. 12 And the (PL)ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast (PM)for one hour. 13 These have (PN)one [cn]purpose, and they give their power and authority to the beast. 14 These will wage (PO)war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will (PP)overcome them, because He is (PQ)Lord of lords and (PR)King of kings, and (PS)those who are with Him are the (PT)called and elect and faithful.”

15 And he *said to me, “The (PU)waters which you saw where the harlot sits, are (PV)peoples and crowds and nations and tongues. 16 And the (PW)ten horns which you saw, and the beast, these will hate the harlot and will (PX)lay waste to her and make her (PY)naked, and will (PZ)eat her flesh and will (QA)burn her up with fire. 17 For (QB)God gave it in their hearts to do His [co]purpose both [cp]by (QC)doing their own common purpose and by giving their kingdom to the beast, until the (QD)words of God will be finished. 18 And the woman whom you saw is (QE)the great city, which has a kingdom over the kings of the earth.”
