Gud är rättvis
73 Gud är verkligen god mot Israel! Han är god mot dem som har rena hjärtan.
2 Men jag nästan tvivlade på honom och kom för nära klippbranten! Jag snubblade och var nära att falla ner.
3 Jag var avundsjuk på dem som det gick bra för, de stolta och högfärdiga som hade framgång.
4 Hela livet tycks le emot dem. De är friska och välmående.
5 De råkar inte in i svårigheter och brottas inte med problem som många andra.
6 Deras högfärd glänser som ett juvelhalsband, och deras kläder är vävda av grymhet!
7 Deras feta uppsyn talar om de onda planerna i deras hjärtan.
8 Föraktfullt skrattar de åt andra människor och förtalar dem. De är högfärdiga och förtrycker andra.
9 De skryter som om de ägde både himmel och jord.
10 De har lyckats göra Guds folk förskräckt och förvirrat, så att de lyssnar till dem och tror vad de säger.
11 Förstår Gud vad som händer? frågar de.
12 Se på dessa självsäkra människor. De behöver aldrig lyfta ett finger. Eller också lyfter de ett finger och får det de pekar på. De lever ett lättvindigt liv och blir bara rikare och rikare.
13 Har jag slösat bort min tid? Vad har jag för glädje av att leva ett rent liv och inte synda?
14 Allt jag fått ut av det är lidande och problem, ingenting annat.
15 Nej, om jag verkligen hade sagt så, skulle jag ha varit en förrädare mot ditt folk.
16 Ändå är det alltför svårt att förstå varför de som hatar Herren kan ha sådan framgång.
17 Jag funderade mycket över detta, men en dag då jag satt i Guds helgedom fick jag ett annat perspektiv på alltsammans.
18 Jag tänkte på hur framtiden ska bli för dessa ogudaktiga människor och på vilken slipprig väg de går. Plötsligt kommer Gud att störta dem i fördärvet.
19 I ett ögonblick tar deras lycka slut. Den tar en ände med förskräckelse.
20 Nu lever de som i en drömvärld, men en dag kommer de att vakna upp inför sanningen, och stå där yrvakna inför dig.
21 När jag ännu kände bitterhet och mina känslor var sårade,
22 då var jag lika dum och ovetande som ett djur, och jag förstod dig inte.
23 Trots detta älskar du mig! Du håller min högra hand!
24 Du ska fortsätta att leda mig hela livet med din vishet och dina råd, och slutligen ska du ta emot mig med ära i din himmel.
25 Vem känner jag i himlen utom dig? Och när jag känner dig, vad behöver jag då på jorden?
26 Om jag blir sjuk till kropp och själ, så är ändå Gud min styrka! Han ger mig kraft att leva.
27 Men ett är säkert. De som vägrar att tillbe Gud kommer att förgås. Han förgör dem som inte är trogna honom.
28 Men jag försöker komma honom så nära jag kan! Jag har utvalt honom, och jag kommer att berätta för alla om hur underbart han räddar mig.

The Tragedy of the Wicked, and the Blessedness of Trust in God
A Psalm of (A)Asaph.
73 Truly God is good to Israel,
To such as are pure in heart.
2 But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled;
My steps had nearly (B)slipped.
3 (C)For I was envious of the boastful,
When I saw the prosperity of the (D)wicked.
4 For there are no [a]pangs in their death,
But their strength is firm.
5 (E)They are not in trouble as other men,
Nor are they plagued like other men.
6 Therefore pride serves as their necklace;
Violence covers them (F)like a garment.
7 (G)Their [b]eyes bulge with abundance;
They have more than heart could wish.
8 (H)They scoff and speak wickedly concerning oppression;
They (I)speak [c]loftily.
9 They set their mouth (J)against the heavens,
And their tongue walks through the earth.
10 Therefore his people return here,
(K)And waters of a full cup are drained by them.
11 And they say, (L)“How does God know?
And is there knowledge in the Most High?”
12 Behold, these are the ungodly,
Who are always at ease;
They increase in riches.
13 Surely I have [d]cleansed my heart in (M)vain,
And washed my hands in innocence.
14 For all day long I have been plagued,
And chastened every morning.
15 If I had said, “I will speak thus,”
Behold, I would have been untrue to the generation of Your children.
16 When I thought how to understand this,
It was [e]too painful for me—
17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God;
Then I understood their (N)end.
18 Surely (O)You set them in slippery places;
You cast them down to destruction.
19 Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment!
They are utterly consumed with terrors.
20 As a dream when one awakes,
So, Lord, when You awake,
You shall despise their image.
21 Thus my heart was grieved,
And I was [f]vexed in my mind.
22 (P)I was so foolish and ignorant;
I was like a beast before You.
23 Nevertheless I am continually with You;
You hold me by my right hand.
24 (Q)You will guide me with Your counsel,
And afterward receive me to glory.
25 (R)Whom have I in heaven but You?
And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.
26 (S)My flesh and my heart fail;
But God is the [g]strength of my heart and my (T)portion forever.
27 For indeed, (U)those who are far from You shall perish;
You have destroyed all those who [h]desert You for harlotry.
28 But it is good for me to (V)draw near to God;
I have put my trust in the Lord God,
That I may (W)declare all Your works.

Psalm 73
A psalm of Asaph.
1 Surely God is good to Israel,
to those who are pure in heart.(A)
2 But as for me, my feet had almost slipped;(B)
I had nearly lost my foothold.(C)
3 For I envied(D) the arrogant
when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.(E)
4 They have no struggles;
their bodies are healthy and strong.[a]
5 They are free(F) from common human burdens;
they are not plagued by human ills.
6 Therefore pride(G) is their necklace;(H)
they clothe themselves with violence.(I)
7 From their callous hearts(J) comes iniquity[b];
their evil imaginations have no limits.
8 They scoff, and speak with malice;(K)
with arrogance(L) they threaten oppression.(M)
9 Their mouths lay claim to heaven,
and their tongues take possession of the earth.
10 Therefore their people turn to them
and drink up waters in abundance.[c]
11 They say, “How would God know?
Does the Most High know anything?”
13 Surely in vain(P) I have kept my heart pure
and have washed my hands in innocence.(Q)
14 All day long I have been afflicted,(R)
and every morning brings new punishments.
15 If I had spoken out like that,
I would have betrayed your children.
16 When I tried to understand(S) all this,
it troubled me deeply
17 till I entered the sanctuary(T) of God;
then I understood their final destiny.(U)
18 Surely you place them on slippery ground;(V)
you cast them down to ruin.(W)
19 How suddenly(X) are they destroyed,
completely swept away(Y) by terrors!
20 They are like a dream(Z) when one awakes;(AA)
when you arise, Lord,
you will despise them as fantasies.(AB)
21 When my heart was grieved
and my spirit embittered,
22 I was senseless(AC) and ignorant;
I was a brute beast(AD) before you.
23 Yet I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand.(AE)
24 You guide(AF) me with your counsel,(AG)
and afterward you will take me into glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?(AH)
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.(AI)
26 My flesh and my heart(AJ) may fail,(AK)
but God is the strength(AL) of my heart
and my portion(AM) forever.

73 Truly God is good to (B)Israel,
to those who are (C)pure in heart.
2 But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled,
my steps had nearly slipped.
3 (D)For I was (E)envious of the arrogant
when I saw the (F)prosperity of the wicked.
4 For they have no pangs until death;
their bodies are fat and sleek.
5 They are not in trouble as others are;
they are not (G)stricken like the rest of mankind.
6 Therefore pride is (H)their necklace;

their hearts overflow with follies.
8 They scoff and (K)speak with malice;
loftily they threaten oppression.
9 They set their mouths against the heavens,
and their tongue struts through the earth.

Is there knowledge in the Most High?”

O Lord, when (AB)you rouse yourself, you despise them as phantoms.
21 When my soul was embittered,
when I was pricked in heart,
22 I was (AC)brutish and ignorant;
I was like (AD)a beast toward you.
23 Nevertheless, I am continually with you;
you (AE)hold my right hand.
24 You (AF)guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will (AG)receive me to glory.
25 (AH)Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
