In You Do I Take Refuge

A ^(A)Shiggaion^[a] of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning the words of Cush, a Benjaminite.

7 O Lord my God, in you do I ^(B)take refuge;
^(C)save me from all my pursuers and deliver me,
²lest like ^(D)a lion they tear my soul apart,
rending it in pieces, with ^(E)none to deliver.

³O Lord my God, ^(F)if I have done this,
    if there is ^(G)wrong in my hands,
⁴if I have repaid ^(H)my friend^[b] with evil
    or ^(I)plundered my enemy without cause,
⁵let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it,
    and let him ^(J)trample my life to the ground
    and lay my glory in the dust. Selah

⁶^(K)Arise, O Lord, in your anger;
    ^(L)lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies;
    ^(M)awake for me; you have appointed a judgment.
⁷Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about you;
    over it return on high.

⁸The Lord ^(N)judges the peoples;
    ^(O)judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness
    and according to the integrity that is in me.
⁹Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end,
    and may you establish the righteous—
you who ^(P)test ^(Q)the minds and hearts,^[c]
    O righteous God!
¹⁰My shield is ^(R)with God,
    who saves ^(S)the upright in heart.
¹¹God is ^(T)a righteous judge,
    and a God who feels ^(U)indignation every day.

¹²If a man^[d] does not repent, God^[e] will ^(V)whet his sword;
    he has ^(W)bent and ^(X)readied his bow;
¹³he has prepared for him his deadly weapons,
    making his ^(Y)arrows ^(Z)fiery shafts.
¹⁴Behold, the wicked man ^(AA)conceives evil
    and is ^(AB)pregnant with mischief
    and gives birth to lies.
¹⁵He makes ^(AC)a pit, digging it out,
    and falls into the hole that he has made.
¹⁶His ^(AD)mischief returns upon his own head,
    and on his own skull his violence descends.

¹⁷I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness,
and I will ^(AE)sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.

How Majestic Is Your Name

8 O Lord, our Lord,
    how majestic is your ^(AG)name in all the earth!
You have set your ^(AH)glory above the heavens.
²    ^(AI)Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established ^(AJ)strength because of your foes,
    to still ^(AK)the enemy and the avenger.

³When I ^(AL)look at your heavens, the work of your ^(AM)fingers,
the moon and the stars, ^(AN)which you have set in place,
⁴^(AO)what is man that you are ^(AP)mindful of him,
and ^(AQ)the son of man that you ^(AR)care for him?

⁵Yet you have made him a little lower than ^(AS)the heavenly beings^[g]
    and crowned him with ^(AT)glory and honor.
⁶You have given him ^(AU)dominion over the works of your hands;
    ^(AV)you have put all things under his feet,
⁷all sheep and oxen,
    and also the beasts of the field,
⁸the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
    whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

⁹O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

²⁸So Jesus proclaimed, ^(A)as he taught in the temple, ^(B)“You know me, and you know where I come from. But ^(C)I have not come of my own accord. ^(D)He who sent me is true, ^(E)and him you do not know. ²⁹^(F)I know him, for I come ^(G)from him, and ^(H)he sent me.” ³⁰^(I)So they were seeking to arrest him, but ^(J)no one laid a hand on him, ^(K)because his hour had not yet come. ³¹Yet ^(L)many of the people believed in him. They said, ^(M)“When the Christ appears, will he do more signs than this man has done?”

Officers Sent to Arrest Jesus

³²The Pharisees heard the crowd ^(N)muttering these things about him, and the chief priests and Pharisees sent ^(O)officers to arrest him. ³³Jesus then said, ^(P)“I will be with you a little longer, and then ^(Q)I am going to him who sent me. ³⁴^(R)You will seek me and you will not find me. Where I am you cannot come.” ³⁵The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we will not find him? ^(S)Does he intend to go to ^(T)the Dispersion among ^(U)the Greeks and teach the Greeks? ³⁶What does he mean by saying, ^(V)‘You will seek me and you will not find me,’ and, ‘Where I am you cannot come’?”

Rivers of Living Water

³⁷^(W)On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, ^(X)“If anyone thirsts, let him ^(Y)come to me and drink. ³⁸Whoever believes in me, ^(Z)as^[a] the Scripture has said, ^(AA)‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of ^(AB)living water.’” ³⁹Now ^(AC)this he said about the Spirit, ^(AD)whom those who believed in him were to receive, ^(AE)for as yet the Spirit had not been ^(AF)given, ^(AG)because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Division Among the People

⁴⁰When they heard these words, ^(AH)some of the people said, “This really is ^(AI)the Prophet.” ⁴¹Others said, “This is ^(AJ)the Christ.” But some said, ^(AK)“Is the Christ to come from Galilee? ⁴²Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes ^(AL)from the offspring of David, and comes ^(AM)from Bethlehem, the village ^(AN)where David was?” ⁴³So there was ^(AO)a division among the people over him. ⁴⁴^(AP)Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him.

⁴⁵^(AQ)The officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why did you not bring him?” ⁴⁶The officers answered, ^(AR)“No one ever spoke like this man!” ⁴⁷The Pharisees answered them, ^(AS)“Have you also been deceived? ⁴⁸^(AT)Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him? ⁴⁹But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.” ⁵⁰^(AU)Nicodemus, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, ⁵¹^(AV)“Does our law judge a man without first ^(AW)giving him a hearing and learning what he does?” ⁵²They replied, ^(AX)“Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that ^(AY)no prophet arises from Galilee.”
