Psalm 140:6-13

New International Version

⁶I say to the Lord, “You are my God.”^(A)
    Hear, Lord, my cry for mercy.^(B)
⁷Sovereign Lord,^(C) my strong deliverer,
    you shield my head in the day of battle.
⁸Do not grant the wicked^(D) their desires, Lord;
    do not let their plans succeed.

⁹Those who surround me proudly rear their heads;
    may the mischief of their lips engulf them.^(E)
¹⁰May burning coals fall on them;
    may they be thrown into the fire,^(F)
    into miry pits, never to rise.
¹¹May slanderers not be established in the land;
    may disaster hunt down the violent.^(G)

¹²I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor^(H)
and upholds the cause^(I) of the needy.^(J)
¹³Surely the righteous will praise your name,^(K)
and the upright will live^(L) in your presence.^(M)

⁴⁵“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like^(A) a merchant looking for fine pearls. ⁴⁶When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

The Parable of the Net

⁴⁷“Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like^(B) a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds^(C) of fish. ⁴⁸When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. ⁴⁹This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous^(D) ⁵⁰and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.^(E)
