Psalm 110

The Priestly King

A psalm of David.

This is the declaration of the Lord
to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies your footstool.”(A)
The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion.
Rule[a] over your surrounding[b] enemies.(B)
Your people will volunteer
on your day of battle.[c](C)
In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn,
the dew of your youth belongs to you.[d](D)
The Lord has sworn an oath and will not take it back:
“You are a priest forever
according to the pattern of Melchizedek.”(E)

The Lord is at your right hand;
he will crush kings on the day of his anger.(F)
He will judge the nations, heaping up corpses;(G)
he will crush leaders over the entire world.(H)
He will drink from the brook by the road;(I)
therefore, he will lift up his head.(J)

Psalm 111

Praise for the Lord’s Works

Hallelujah![e]
I will praise the Lord with all my heart
in the assembly of the upright and in the congregation.(K)
The Lord’s works are great,
studied by all who delight in them.(L)
All that he does is splendid and majestic;(M)
his righteousness endures forever.(N)
He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered.(O)
The Lord is gracious and compassionate.(P)
He has provided food for those who fear him;(Q)
he remembers his covenant forever.(R)
He has shown his people the power of his works
by giving them the inheritance of the nations.(S)
The works of his hands are truth and justice;
all his instructions are trustworthy.(T)
They are established forever and ever,
enacted in truth and in uprightness.(U)
He has sent redemption to his people.(V)
He has ordained his covenant forever.
His name is holy and awe-inspiring.(W)

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;(X)
all who follow his instructions[f] have good insight.(Y)
His praise endures forever.(Z)

Psalm 112

The Traits of the Righteous

Hallelujah![g]
Happy is the person who fears the Lord,
taking great delight in his commands.(AA)
His descendants will be powerful in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.(AB)
Wealth and riches are in his house,(AC)
and his righteousness endures forever.(AD)
Light shines in the darkness for the upright.(AE)
He is gracious, compassionate, and righteous.(AF)
Good will come to the one who lends generously
and conducts his business fairly.(AG)
He will never be shaken.(AH)
The righteous one will be remembered forever.(AI)
He will not fear bad news;
his heart is confident, trusting in the Lord.(AJ)
His heart is assured; he will not fear.(AK)
In the end he will look in triumph on his foes.(AL)
He distributes freely to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever.(AM)
His horn will be exalted in honor.(AN)

10 The wicked one will see it and be angry;
he will gnash his teeth in despair.(AO)
The desire of the wicked leads to ruin.(AP)

Immoral Church Members

It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality(A) among you, and the kind of sexual immorality that is not even tolerated[a] among the Gentiles(B)—a man is sleeping with his father’s wife.(C) And you are arrogant! Shouldn’t you be filled with grief(D) and remove from your congregation the one who did this? Even though I am absent in the body, I am present in spirit.(E) As one who is present with you in this way, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who has been doing such a thing. When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus, and I am with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, hand that one over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh,(F) so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.(G)

Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little leaven[b](H) leavens the whole batch of dough?(I) Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new unleavened batch, as indeed you are. For Christ our Passover lamb(J) has been sacrificed.[c] Therefore, let us observe the feast, not with old leaven or with the leaven of malice and evil,(K) but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Church Discipline

I wrote to you in a letter not to associate(L) with sexually immoral people.(M) 10 I did not mean the immoral people of this world or the greedy(N) and swindlers(O) or idolaters; otherwise you would have to leave the world.(P) 11 But actually, I wrote[d] you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister(Q) and is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard(R) or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person. 12 For what business is it of mine to judge(S) outsiders? Don’t you judge those who are inside? 13 God judges outsiders. Remove the evil person from among you.[e](T)
