72 Von Salomo.[a]
Gott, lass den König an deiner Stelle Recht sprechen!
Gib ihm deinen Sinn für Gerechtigkeit ins Herz!
2 Als oberster Richter soll er dein Volk unparteiisch regieren
und den Rechtlosen zu ihrem Recht verhelfen.
3 Durch seine Herrschaft kann das Volk in Frieden leben,
im ganzen Land wird Gerechtigkeit herrschen.[b]
4 Der König wird für die Unterdrückten eintreten
und sich zum Anwalt der Armen machen;
die Unterdrücker aber wird er zerschmettern.
5 Er soll regieren,[c] solange Sonne und Mond am Himmel stehen,
jetzt und in allen kommenden Generationen.
6 Seine Herrschaft sei wohltuend wie der Regen,
der auf die Wiesen niedergeht,
wie erfrischende Schauer, die trockene Felder bewässern.
7 Dann werden alle aufblühen, die Gott die Treue halten,
Frieden und Glück werden herrschen bis ans Ende der Zeit[d].
8 Seine Macht reiche von einem Meer zum anderen,
vom Euphrat bis zum Ende der Erde!
9 Ihm sollen sich die Bewohner der Wüste unterwerfen,
und auch seine Feinde sollen im Staub vor ihm kriechen.
10 Die Könige von Tarsis[e] und von den fernen Inseln
werden ihm Geschenke bringen,
und auch die Herrscher von Saba und Seba[f]
werden ihm Abgaben entrichten.
11 Huldigen sollen ihm alle Könige
und alle Völker ihm dienen!
12 Denn er rettet den Wehrlosen, der um Hilfe fleht;
den Schwachen, dem jeder andere seine Unterstützung versagt.
13 Am Schicksal der Armen nimmt er Anteil
und bewahrt die Entrechteten vor dem sicheren Tod.
14 Er befreit sie von Gewaltherrschaft,
ihrer Unterdrückung macht er ein Ende,
denn in seinen Augen ist ihr Leben wertvoll.
15 Lang lebe der König!
Man bringe ihm Gold von Saba!
Man bete allezeit für ihn
und wünsche ihm Glück und Segen den ganzen Tag!
16 In seinem Land möge das Getreide im Überfluss wachsen,
sogar noch auf den Gipfeln der Berge soll es gedeihen –
so üppig, wie es die Wälder auf dem Libanon sind.
In den Städten möge reges Leben herrschen.[g]
17 Der Name des Königs sei für immer bekannt;
sein Ruhm nehme zu, solange die Erde besteht[h]!
Mögen alle Völker durch ihn am Segen teilhaben[i]
und ihn, den König, glücklich preisen!
18 Gelobt sei Gott, der Herr, der Gott Israels!
Er vollbringt Wunder, er allein!
19 Lobt seinen erhabenen Namen für alle Zeit!
Seine Herrlichkeit erfülle die ganze Welt!
Amen, so soll es sein!

Glory and Universality of the Messiah’s Reign
A Psalm (A)of Solomon.
72 Give the king Your judgments, O God,
And Your righteousness to the king’s Son.
2 (B)He will judge Your people with righteousness,
And Your poor with justice.
3 (C)The mountains will bring peace to the people,
And the little hills, by righteousness.
4 (D)He will bring justice to the poor of the people;
He will save the children of the needy,
And will [a]break in pieces the oppressor.
5 [b]They shall fear You
(E)As long as the sun and moon endure,
Throughout all generations.
6 (F)He shall come down like rain upon the grass before mowing,
Like showers that water the earth.
7 In His days the righteous shall flourish,
(G)And abundance of peace,
Until the moon is no more.
8 (H)He shall have dominion also from sea to sea,
And from the River to the ends of the earth.
9 (I)Those who dwell in the wilderness will bow before Him,
(J)And His enemies will lick the dust.
10 (K)The kings of Tarshish and of the isles
Will bring presents;
The kings of Sheba and Seba
Will offer gifts.
11 (L)Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him;
All nations shall serve Him.
12 For He (M)will deliver the needy when he cries,
The poor also, and him who has no helper.
13 He will spare the poor and needy,
And will save the souls of the needy.
14 He will redeem their life from oppression and violence;
And (N)precious shall be their blood in His sight.
15 And He shall live;
And the gold of (O)Sheba will be given to Him;
Prayer also will be made for Him continually,
And daily He shall be praised.
16 There will be an abundance of grain in the earth,
On the top of the mountains;
Its fruit shall wave like Lebanon;
(P)And those of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.
17 (Q)His name shall endure forever;
His name shall continue as long as the sun.
And (R)men shall be blessed in Him;
(S)All nations shall call Him blessed.
18 (T)Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,
(U)Who only does wondrous things!
19 And (V)blessed be His glorious name forever!
(W)And let the whole earth be filled with His glory.

72 Give the king your (B)justice, O God,
and your righteousness to the royal son!
2 May he (C)judge your people with righteousness,
and your poor with justice!
3 Let the mountains bear (D)prosperity for the people,
and the hills, in righteousness!
4 May he defend the cause of the poor of the people,
give deliverance to the children of the needy,
and crush the oppressor!
5 May they fear you[a] while (E)the sun endures,
and as long as the moon, (F)throughout all generations!
6 May he be like (G)rain that falls on (H)the mown grass,
like (I)showers that water the earth!
7 In his days may (J)the righteous flourish,
and (K)peace abound, till the moon be no more!
8 May he have dominion from (L)sea to sea,

9 May desert tribes (O)bow down before him,
and his enemies (P)lick the dust!

and blessings invoked for him all the day!
16 May there be abundance of grain in the land;
on the tops of the mountains may it wave;
may its fruit be like Lebanon;

his fame continue as long as the sun!
