64 To the end, a psalm of David. The canticle of Jeremias and Ezechiel to the people of the captivity, when they began to go out.

²A Hymn, O God, becometh thee in Sion: and a vow shall be paid to thee in Jerusalem.

³O hear my prayer: all flesh shall come to thee.

⁴The words of the wicked have prevailed over us: and thou wilt pardon our transgressions.

⁵Blessed is he whom thou hast chosen and taken to thee: he shall dwell in thy courts. We shall be filled with the good things of thy house; holy is thy temple,

⁶Wonderful in justice. Hear us, O God our saviour, who art the hope of all the ends of the earth, and in the sea afar off.

⁷Thou who preparest the mountains by thy strength, being girded with power:

⁸Who troublest the depth of the sea, the noise of its waves. The Gentiles shall be troubled,

⁹And they that dwell in the uttermost borders shall be afraid at thy signs: thou shalt make the outgoings of the morning and of the evening to be joyful.

¹⁰Thou hast visited the earth, and hast plentifully watered it; thou hast many ways enriched it. The river of God is filled with water, thou hast prepared their food: for so is its preparation.

¹¹Fill up plentifully the streams thereof, multiply its fruits; it shall spring up and rejoice in its showers.

¹²Thou shalt bless the crown of the year of thy goodness: and thy fields shall be filled with plenty.

¹³The beautiful places of the wilderness shall grow fat: and the hills shall be girded about with joy,

¹⁴The rams of the flock are clothed, and the vales shall abound with corn: they shall shout, yea they shall sing a hymn.

Oppressed by the Wicked but Rejoicing in the Lord

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

64 Hear my voice, O God, in my ^[a]meditation;
Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
²Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,
³Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
^(A)And bend their bows to shoot their arrows—bitter words,
⁴That they may shoot in secret at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear.

⁵They encourage themselves in an evil matter;
They talk of laying snares secretly;
^(B)They say, “Who will see them?”
⁶They devise iniquities:
“We have perfected a shrewd scheme.”
Both the inward thought and the heart of man are deep.

⁷But God shall shoot at them with an arrow;
Suddenly they shall be wounded.
⁸So He will make them stumble over their own tongue;
^(C)All who see them shall flee away.
⁹All men shall fear,
And shall ^(D)declare the work of God;
For they shall wisely consider His doing.

¹⁰^(E)The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and trust in Him.
And all the upright in heart shall glory.

64 Hear my voice, O God, in my ^(A)complaint;
    preserve my life from dread of the enemy.
²Hide me from ^(B)the secret plots of the wicked,
    from the throng of evildoers,
³who ^(C)whet their tongues like swords,
    who ^(D)aim bitter words like arrows,
⁴shooting from ^(E)ambush at the blameless,
    shooting at him suddenly and ^(F)without fear.
⁵They ^(G)hold fast to their evil purpose;
    they talk of ^(H)laying snares secretly,
thinking, ^(I)“Who can see them?”
⁶    They search out injustice,
saying, “We have accomplished a diligent search.”
    For ^(J)the inward mind and heart of a man are deep.

⁷^(K)But God shoots his arrow at them;
    they are wounded suddenly.
⁸They are brought to ruin, with their own ^(L)tongues turned against them;
    all who ^(M)see them will ^(N)wag their heads.
⁹Then all mankind ^(O)fears;
    they ^(P)tell what God has brought about
    and ponder what he has done.

¹⁰Let ^(Q)the righteous one rejoice in the Lord
and ^(R)take refuge in him!
Let all ^(S)the upright in heart exult!

Psalm 64^[a]

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

¹Hear me, my God, as I voice my complaint;^(A)
protect my life from the threat of the enemy.^(B)

²Hide me from the conspiracy^(C) of the wicked,^(D)
    from the plots of evildoers.
³They sharpen their tongues like swords^(E)
    and aim cruel words like deadly arrows.^(F)
⁴They shoot from ambush at the innocent;^(G)
    they shoot suddenly, without fear.^(H)

⁵They encourage each other in evil plans,
    they talk about hiding their snares;^(I)
    they say, “Who will see it^[b]?”^(J)
⁶They plot injustice and say,
    “We have devised a perfect plan!”
    Surely the human mind and heart are cunning.

⁷But God will shoot them with his arrows;
    they will suddenly be struck down.
⁸He will turn their own tongues against them^(K)
    and bring them to ruin;
    all who see them will shake their heads^(L) in scorn.^(M)
⁹All people will fear;^(N)
    they will proclaim the works of God
    and ponder what he has done.^(O)

¹⁰The righteous will rejoice in the Lord^(P)
and take refuge in him;^(Q)
all the upright in heart will glory in him!^(R)
