Prayer for Deliverance.

43 (A)Vindicate me, O God, and (B)plead my case against an ungodly nation;
[a]O deliver me from (C)the deceitful and unjust man!
For You are the (D)God of my strength; why have You (E)rejected me?
Why do I go (F)mourning [b]because of the oppression of the enemy?

O send out Your (G)light and Your truth, let them lead me;
Let them bring me to Your (H)holy hill
And to Your (I)dwelling places.
Then I will go to (J)the altar of God,
To God [c]my exceeding (K)joy;
And upon the (L)lyre I shall praise You, O God, my God.

(M)Why are you [d]in despair, O my soul?
And why are you disturbed within me?
[e]Hope in God, for I shall [f]again praise Him,
The [g]help of my countenance and my God.

Former Deliverances and Present Troubles.

For the choir director. A [h]Maskil of the sons of Korah.

44 O God, we have heard with our ears,
Our (N)fathers have told us
The (O)work that You did in their days,
In the (P)days of old.
You with Your own hand (Q)drove out the nations;
Then You (R)planted them;
You (S)afflicted the peoples,
Then You (T)spread them abroad.
For by their own sword they (U)did not possess the land,
And their own arm did not save them,
But Your right hand and Your (V)arm and the (W)light of Your presence,
For You (X)favored them.

You are (Y)my King, O God;
(Z)Command [i]victories for Jacob.
Through You we will (AA)push back our adversaries;
Through Your name we will (AB)trample down those who rise up against us.
For I will (AC)not trust in my bow,
Nor will my sword save me.
But You (AD)have saved us from our adversaries,
And You have (AE)put to shame those who hate us.
In God we have (AF)boasted all day long,
And we will (AG)give thanks to Your name forever. [j]Selah.

Yet You (AH)have rejected us and brought us to (AI)dishonor,
And (AJ)do not go out with our armies.
10 You cause us to (AK)turn back from the adversary;
And those who hate us (AL)have taken spoil for themselves.
11 You give us as (AM)sheep [k]to be eaten
And have (AN)scattered us among the nations.
12 You (AO)sell Your people [l]cheaply,
And have not [m]profited by their sale.
13 You make us a (AP)reproach to our neighbors,
A scoffing and a (AQ)derision to those around us.
14 You make us (AR)a byword among the nations,
A [n](AS)laughingstock among the peoples.
15 All day long my dishonor is before me
And [o]my (AT)humiliation has overwhelmed me,
16 Because of the voice of him who (AU)reproaches and reviles,
Because of the presence of the (AV)enemy and the avenger.

17 All this has come upon us, but we have (AW)not forgotten You,
And we have not (AX)dealt falsely with Your covenant.
18 Our heart has not (AY)turned back,
And our steps (AZ)have not deviated from Your way,
19 Yet You have (BA)crushed us in a place of (BB)jackals
And covered us with (BC)the shadow of death.

20 If we had (BD)forgotten the name of our God
Or extended our [p]hands to (BE)a strange god,
21 Would not God (BF)find this out?
For He knows the secrets of the heart.
22 But (BG)for Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are considered as (BH)sheep to be slaughtered.
23 (BI)Arouse Yourself, why (BJ)do You sleep, O Lord?
Awake, (BK)do not reject us forever.
24 Why do You (BL)hide Your face
And (BM)forget our affliction and our oppression?
25 For our (BN)soul has sunk down into the dust;
Our body cleaves to the earth.
26 (BO)Rise up, be our help,
And (BP)redeem us for the sake of Your lovingkindness.

A Song Celebrating the King’s Marriage.

For the choir director; according to the [q]Shoshannim. A [r]Maskil of the sons of Korah. A Song of Love.

45 My heart [s]overflows with a good theme;
I [t]address my [u]verses to the [v]King;
My tongue is the pen of (BQ)a ready writer.
You are fairer than the sons of men;
(BR)Grace is poured [w]upon Your lips;
Therefore God has (BS)blessed You forever.

Gird (BT)Your sword on Your thigh, O [x](BU)Mighty One,
In Your splendor and Your majesty!
And in Your majesty ride on victoriously,
For the cause of truth and (BV)meekness and righteousness;
Let Your (BW)right hand teach You [y]awesome things.
Your (BX)arrows are sharp;
The (BY)peoples fall under You;
Your arrows are (BZ)in the heart of the King’s enemies.

(CA)Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;
A scepter of (CB)uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
You have (CC)loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
Therefore God, Your God, has (CD)anointed You
With the oil of joy above Your fellows.
All Your garments are fragrant with (CE)myrrh and aloes and cassia;
Out of ivory palaces (CF)stringed instruments have made You glad.
Kings’ daughters are among (CG)Your noble ladies;
At Your (CH)right hand stands the queen in (CI)gold from Ophir.

10 Listen, O daughter, give attention and incline your ear:
(CJ)Forget your people and your father’s house;
11 Then the King will desire your beauty.
Because He is your (CK)Lord, (CL)bow down to Him.
12 The daughter of (CM)Tyre will come with a gift;
The (CN)rich among the people will seek your favor.

13 The King’s daughter is all glorious within;
Her clothing is (CO)interwoven with gold.
14 She will be (CP)led to the King (CQ)in embroidered work;
The (CR)virgins, her companions who follow her,
Will be brought to You.
15 They will be led forth with gladness and rejoicing;
They will enter into the King’s palace.

16 In place of your fathers will be your sons;
You shall make them princes in all the earth.
17 I will cause (CS)Your name to be remembered in all generations;
Therefore the peoples (CT)will give You thanks forever and ever.

The Folly of Trusting in Riches.

For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.

49 (A)Hear this, all peoples;
Give ear, all (B)inhabitants of the world,
Both (C)low and high,
Rich and poor together.
My mouth will (D)speak wisdom,
And the meditation of my heart will be (E)understanding.
I will incline my ear to (F)a proverb;
(G)I will [a]express my (H)riddle on the harp.

Why should I (I)fear in days of adversity,
When the iniquity of my [b]foes surrounds me,
Even those who (J)trust in their wealth
And boast in the abundance of their riches?
No man can by any means (K)redeem his brother
Or give to God a (L)ransom for him—
For (M)the redemption of [c]his soul is costly,
And he should cease trying forever—
That he should (N)live on eternally,
That he should not [d](O)undergo decay.

10 For he sees that even (P)wise men die;
The (Q)stupid and the senseless alike perish
And (R)leave their wealth to others.
11 Their [e](S)inner thought is that their houses (T)are forever
And their dwelling places to all generations;
They have (U)called their lands after their own names.
12 But (V)man in his [f]pomp will not endure;
He is like the [g]beasts that [h]perish.

13 This is the (W)way of those who are foolish,
And of those after them who (X)approve their words. [i]Selah.
14 As sheep they are appointed (Y)for [j]Sheol;
Death shall be their shepherd;
And the (Z)upright shall rule over them in the morning,
And their form shall be for [k]Sheol (AA)to consume
[l]So that they have no habitation.
15 But God will (AB)redeem my soul from the [m]power of [n]Sheol,
For (AC)He will receive me. Selah.

16 Do not be afraid (AD)when a man becomes rich,
When the [o]glory of his house is increased;
17 For when he dies he will (AE)carry nothing away;
His [p]glory will not descend after him.
18 Though while he lives he (AF)congratulates [q]himself—
And though men praise you when you do well for yourself—
19 [r]He shall (AG)go to the generation of his fathers;
They will never see (AH)the light.
20 (AI)Man in his [s]pomp, yet without understanding,
Is (AJ)like the [t]beasts that [u]perish.

Longing for the Temple Worship.

For the choir director; [a]on the Gittith. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.

84 How lovely are Your (A)dwelling places,
O Lord of hosts!
My (B)soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the Lord;
My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the (C)living God.
The bird also has found a house,
And the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young,
Even Your (D)altars, O Lord of hosts,
(E)My King and my God.
How (F)blessed are those who dwell in Your house!
They are (G)ever praising You. [b]Selah.

How blessed is the man whose (H)strength is in You,
In [c]whose heart are the (I)highways to Zion!
Passing through the valley of [d]Baca they make it a [e]spring;
The (J)early rain also covers it with blessings.
They (K)go from strength to strength,
[f]Every one of them (L)appears before God in Zion.

O (M)Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;
Give ear, O (N)God of Jacob! Selah.
Behold our (O)shield, O God,
And look upon the face of (P)Your anointed.
10 For (Q)a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside.
I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the Lord God is (R)a sun and (S)shield;
The Lord gives grace and (T)glory;
(U)No good thing does He withhold [g]from those who walk [h]uprightly.
12 O Lord of hosts,
How (V)blessed is the man who trusts in You!

Prayer for God’s Mercy upon the Nation.

For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.

85 O Lord, You showed (W)favor to Your land;
You [i](X)restored the captivity of Jacob.
You (Y)forgave the iniquity of Your people;
You (Z)covered all their sin. [j]Selah.
You (AA)withdrew all Your fury;
You (AB)turned away from Your burning anger.

(AC)Restore us, O God of our salvation,
And (AD)cause Your indignation toward us to cease.
Will (AE)You be angry with us forever?
Will You prolong Your anger to [k]all generations?
Will You not Yourself [l](AF)revive us again,
That Your people may (AG)rejoice in You?
Show us Your lovingkindness, O Lord,
And (AH)grant us Your salvation.

[m]I will hear what God the Lord will say;
For He will (AI)speak peace to His people, [n]to His godly ones;
But let them not (AJ)turn back to [o]folly.
Surely (AK)His salvation is near to those who [p]fear Him,
That (AL)glory may dwell in our land.
10 (AM)Lovingkindness and [q]truth have met together;
(AN)Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
11 [r]Truth (AO)springs from the earth,
And righteousness looks down from heaven.
12 Indeed, (AP)the Lord will give what is good,
And our (AQ)land will yield its produce.
13 (AR)Righteousness will go before Him
And will make His footsteps into a way.

The Privileges of Citizenship in Zion.

A Psalm of the sons of Korah. A Song.

87 His (A)foundation is in the holy mountains.
The Lord (B)loves the gates of Zion
More than all the other dwelling places of Jacob.
(C)Glorious things are spoken of you,
O (D)city of God. [a]Selah.
“I shall mention [b](E)Rahab and Babylon [c]among those who know Me;
Behold, Philistia and (F)Tyre with [d](G)Ethiopia:
‘This one was born there.’”
But of Zion it shall be said, “This one and that one were born in her”;
And the Most High Himself will (H)establish her.
The Lord will count when He (I)registers the peoples,
“This one was born there.” Selah.
Then those who (J)sing as well as those who [e](K)play the flutes shall say,
“All my (L)springs of joy are in you.”
