Answer Me When I Call

To the ^(A)choirmaster: with ^(B)stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.

4 Answer me when I call, O God of my ^(C)righteousness!
You have ^(D)given me relief when I was in distress.
Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!

²O men,^[a] how long shall my honor be turned into shame?
How long will you love vain words and seek after ^(E)lies? Selah
³But know that the Lord has ^(F)set apart ^(G)the godly for himself;
the Lord hears when I call to him.

⁴^(H)Be angry,^[b] and do not sin;
^(I)ponder in your own hearts ^(J)on your beds, and be silent. Selah
⁵Offer ^(K)right sacrifices,
and put your ^(L)trust in the Lord.

⁶There are many who say, “Who will show us some good?
^(M)Lift up ^(N)the light of your face upon us, O Lord!”
⁷You have put ^(O)more joy in my heart
than they have when their grain and wine abound.

⁸In peace I will both ^(P)lie down and sleep;
for you alone, O Lord, make me ^(Q)dwell in safety.

²⁵Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you ^(A)speak the truth with his neighbor, for ^(B)we are members one of another. ²⁶^(C)Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, ²⁷and ^(D)give no opportunity to the devil. ²⁸Let the thief no longer steal, but rather ^(E)let him labor, ^(F)doing honest work with his own hands, so ^(G)that he may have something to share with anyone in need. ²⁹^(H)Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give ^(I)grace to those who hear. ³⁰And ^(J)do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, ^(K)by whom you were sealed for the day of ^(L)redemption. ³¹^(M)Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. ³²^(N)Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, ^(O)forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
