Psalm 23

The Lord Is My Shepherd

A Psalm of David.

23 The Lord is my ^(A)shepherd; I shall not ^(B)want.
²    He makes me lie down in green ^(C)pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.^[a]
³    He ^(D)restores my soul.
He ^(E)leads me in ^(F)paths of righteousness^[b]
    for his ^(G)name's sake.

⁴Even though I ^(H)walk through the valley of ^(I)the shadow of death,^[c]
    I will ^(J)fear no evil,
for ^(K)you are with me;
    your ^(L)rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

⁵You ^(M)prepare a table before me
    in ^(N)the presence of my enemies;
you ^(O)anoint my head with oil;
    my ^(P)cup overflows.
⁶Surely^[d] goodness and mercy^[e] shall follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I shall ^(Q)dwell^[f] in the house of the Lord
    ^(R)forever.^[g]

³²Then Samuel said, “Bring here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites.” And Agag came to him cheerfully.^[a] Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.” ³³And Samuel said, ^(A)“As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women.” And Samuel hacked Agag to pieces before the Lord ^(B)in Gilgal.

³⁴Then Samuel went ^(C)to Ramah, and Saul went up to his house in ^(D)Gibeah of Saul.

The Word Became Flesh

1 ^(A)In the beginning was ^(B)the Word, and ^(C)the Word was with God, and ^(D)the Word was God. ²He was in the beginning with God. ³^(E)All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. ⁴^(F)In him was life,^[a] and ^(G)the life was the light of men. ⁵^(H)The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

⁶There was a man ^(I)sent from God, whose name was ^(J)John. ⁷He came as a ^(K)witness, to bear witness about the light, ^(L)that all might believe through him. ⁸^(M)He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.
