Dispute Over Whose Children Jesus’ Opponents Are

³¹ To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching,^(A) you are really my disciples.

⁹ Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ^(A) does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.^(B)

⁹ Those who want to get rich^(A) fall into temptation and a trap^(B) and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money^(C) is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith^(D) and pierced themselves with many griefs.^(E)

Final Charge to Timothy

¹¹ But you, man of God,^(F) flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness,^(G) faith, love,^(H) endurance and gentleness. ¹² Fight the good fight^(I) of the faith. Take hold of^(J) the eternal life^(K) to which you were called when you made your good confession^(L) in the presence of many witnesses. ¹³ In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate^(M) made the good confession,^(N) I charge you^{(O) 14} to keep this command without spot or blame^(P) until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,^{(Q) 15} which God will bring about in his own time^(R)—God, the blessed^(S) and only Ruler,^(T) the King of kings and Lord of lords,^{(U) 16} who alone is immortal^(V) and who lives in unapproachable light,^(W) whom no one has seen or can see.^(X) To him be honor and might forever. ¹⁷ Command those who are rich^(Z) in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth,^(AA) which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God,^(AB) who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.^(AC)
