You Will Not Abandon My Soul

A ^(A)Miktam^[a] of David.

16 Preserve me, O God, for in you I ^(B)take refuge.
²I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
^(C)I have no good apart from you.”

³As for ^(D)the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,
in whom is all my delight.^[b]

⁴The sorrows of those who run after^[c] another god shall multiply;
their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out
or ^(E)take their names on my lips.

⁵The Lord is ^(F)my chosen portion and my ^(G)cup;
you hold my ^(H)lot.
⁶^(I)The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

⁷I bless the Lord who ^(J)gives me counsel;
in ^(K)the night also my ^(L)heart instructs me.^[d]
⁸^(M)I have ^(N)set the Lord always before me;
because he is at my ^(O)right hand, I shall not be ^(P)shaken.

⁹Therefore my heart is glad, and my ^(Q)whole being^[e] rejoices;
my flesh also dwells secure.
¹⁰For you will not abandon my soul to ^(R)Sheol,
^(S)or let your ^(T)holy one see ^(U)corruption.^[f]

¹¹You make known to me ^(V)the path of life;
in your presence there is ^(W)fullness of joy;
at your right hand are ^(X)pleasures forevermore.

for ^(B)love is strong as death,
    ^(C)jealousy^[a] is fierce as the grave.^[b]
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
    the very ^(D)flame of the Lord.
⁷Many waters cannot quench love,
    neither can floods drown it.
If a man offered for love
    all the wealth of his ^(E)house,
    he^[c] would be utterly despised.

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

¹¹But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. ¹²And ^(A)she saw ^(B)two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. ¹³They said to her, ^(C)“Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, ^(D)“They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” ¹⁴Having said this, she turned around and ^(E)saw Jesus standing, ^(F)but she did not know that it was Jesus. ¹⁵Jesus said to her, ^(G)“Woman, why are you weeping? ^(H)Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be ^(I)the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” ¹⁶Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic,^[a] ^(J)“Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). ¹⁷Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to ^(K)my brothers and say to them, ^(L)‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to ^(M)my God and your God.’” ¹⁸Mary Magdalene ^(N)went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her.

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

¹⁹^(O)On the evening ^(P)of that day, the first day of the week, ^(Q)the doors being locked where the disciples were ^(R)for fear of the Jews,^[b] Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ^(S)“Peace be with you.” ²⁰When he had said this, ^(T)he showed them his hands and his side. Then ^(U)the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.
