Psalm 125-135
New International Version
Psalm 125
A song of ascents.
1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,(A)
which cannot be shaken(B) but endures forever.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,(C)
so the Lord surrounds(D) his people
both now and forevermore.
3 The scepter(E) of the wicked will not remain(F)
over the land allotted to the righteous,
for then the righteous might use
their hands to do evil.(G)
4 Lord, do good(H) to those who are good,
to those who are upright in heart.(I)
5 But those who turn(J) to crooked ways(K)
the Lord will banish(L) with the evildoers.
Peace be on Israel.(M)
Psalm 126
A song of ascents.
1 When the Lord restored(N) the fortunes of[a] Zion,
we were like those who dreamed.[b]
2 Our mouths were filled with laughter,(O)
our tongues with songs of joy.(P)
Then it was said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things(Q) for them.”
3 The Lord has done great things(R) for us,
and we are filled with joy.(S)
4 Restore our fortunes,[c](T) Lord,
like streams in the Negev.(U)
5 Those who sow with tears(V)
will reap(W) with songs of joy.(X)
6 Those who go out weeping,(Y)
carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
carrying sheaves with them.
Psalm 127
A song of ascents. Of Solomon.
1 Unless the Lord builds(Z) the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches(AA) over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
2 In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food(AB) to eat—
for he grants sleep(AC) to[d] those he loves.(AD)
3 Children are a heritage from the Lord,
offspring a reward(AE) from him.
4 Like arrows(AF) in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one’s youth.
5 Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.(AG)
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their opponents(AH) in court.(AI)
Psalm 128
A song of ascents.
1 Blessed are all who fear the Lord,(AJ)
who walk in obedience to him.(AK)
2 You will eat the fruit of your labor;(AL)
blessings and prosperity(AM) will be yours.
3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine(AN)
within your house;
your children(AO) will be like olive shoots(AP)
around your table.
4 Yes, this will be the blessing(AQ)
for the man who fears the Lord.(AR)
5 May the Lord bless you from Zion;(AS)
may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem(AT)
all the days of your life.
6 May you live to see your children’s children—(AU)
peace be on Israel.(AV)
Psalm 129
A song of ascents.
1 “They have greatly oppressed(AW) me from my youth,”(AX)
let Israel say;(AY)
2 “they have greatly oppressed me from my youth,
but they have not gained the victory(AZ) over me.
3 Plowmen have plowed my back
and made their furrows long.
4 But the Lord is righteous;(BA)
he has cut me free(BB) from the cords of the wicked.”(BC)
5 May all who hate Zion(BD)
be turned back in shame.(BE)
6 May they be like grass on the roof,(BF)
which withers(BG) before it can grow;
7 a reaper cannot fill his hands with it,(BH)
nor one who gathers fill his arms.
8 May those who pass by not say to them,
“The blessing of the Lord be on you;
we bless you(BI) in the name of the Lord.”
Psalm 130
A song of ascents.
1 Out of the depths(BJ) I cry to you,(BK) Lord;
2 Lord, hear my voice.(BL)
Let your ears be attentive(BM)
to my cry for mercy.(BN)
3 If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,
Lord, who could stand?(BO)
4 But with you there is forgiveness,(BP)
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.(BQ)
5 I wait for the Lord,(BR) my whole being waits,(BS)
and in his word(BT) I put my hope.
6 I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen(BU) wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.(BV)
7 Israel, put your hope(BW) in the Lord,
for with the Lord is unfailing love(BX)
and with him is full redemption.(BY)
8 He himself will redeem(BZ) Israel
from all their sins.(CA)
Psalm 131
A song of ascents. Of David.
1 My heart is not proud,(CB) Lord,
my eyes are not haughty;(CC)
I do not concern myself with great matters(CD)
or things too wonderful for me.(CE)
2 But I have calmed and quieted myself,(CF)
I am like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child I am content.(CG)
Psalm 132(CJ)
A song of ascents.
1 Lord, remember David
and all his self-denial.(CK)
2 He swore an oath to the Lord,
he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:(CL)
3 “I will not enter my house(CM)
or go to my bed,
4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes
or slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place(CN) for the Lord,
a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
6 We heard it in Ephrathah,(CO)
we came upon it in the fields of Jaar:[e](CP)
7 “Let us go to his dwelling place,(CQ)
let us worship at his footstool,(CR) saying,
8 ‘Arise, Lord,(CS) and come to your resting place,
you and the ark of your might.
9 May your priests be clothed with your righteousness;(CT)
may your faithful people(CU) sing for joy.’”
10 For the sake of your servant David,
do not reject your anointed one.
11 The Lord swore an oath to David,(CV)
a sure oath he will not revoke:
“One of your own descendants(CW)
I will place on your throne.
12 If your sons keep my covenant(CX)
and the statutes I teach them,
then their sons will sit
on your throne(CY) for ever and ever.”
13 For the Lord has chosen Zion,(CZ)
he has desired it for his dwelling,(DA) saying,
14 “This is my resting place for ever and ever;(DB)
here I will sit enthroned,(DC) for I have desired it.
15 I will bless her with abundant provisions;
her poor I will satisfy with food.(DD)
16 I will clothe her priests(DE) with salvation,
and her faithful people will ever sing for joy.(DF)
17 “Here I will make a horn[f] grow(DG) for David
and set up a lamp(DH) for my anointed one.(DI)
18 I will clothe his enemies with shame,(DJ)
but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown.”(DK)
Psalm 133
A song of ascents. Of David.
2 It is like precious oil poured on the head,(DN)
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
3 It is as if the dew(DO) of Hermon(DP)
were falling on Mount Zion.(DQ)
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,(DR)
even life forevermore.(DS)
Psalm 134
A song of ascents.
1 Praise the Lord, all you servants(DT) of the Lord
who minister(DU) by night(DV) in the house of the Lord.
2 Lift up your hands(DW) in the sanctuary(DX)
and praise the Lord.(DY)
Psalm 135(EB)
1 Praise the Lord.[g]
Praise the name of the Lord;
praise him, you servants(EC) of the Lord,
2 you who minister in the house(ED) of the Lord,
in the courts(EE) of the house of our God.
3 Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;(EF)
sing praise to his name,(EG) for that is pleasant.(EH)
4 For the Lord has chosen Jacob(EI) to be his own,
Israel to be his treasured possession.(EJ)
5 I know that the Lord is great,(EK)
that our Lord is greater than all gods.(EL)
6 The Lord does whatever pleases him,(EM)
in the heavens and on the earth,(EN)
in the seas and all their depths.
7 He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth;
he sends lightning with the rain(EO)
and brings out the wind(EP) from his storehouses.(EQ)
8 He struck down the firstborn(ER) of Egypt,
the firstborn of people and animals.
9 He sent his signs(ES) and wonders into your midst, Egypt,
against Pharaoh and all his servants.(ET)
10 He struck down many(EU) nations
and killed mighty kings—
11 Sihon(EV) king of the Amorites,(EW)
Og king of Bashan,(EX)
and all the kings of Canaan(EY)—
12 and he gave their land as an inheritance,(EZ)
an inheritance to his people Israel.
13 Your name, Lord, endures forever,(FA)
your renown,(FB) Lord, through all generations.
14 For the Lord will vindicate his people(FC)
and have compassion on his servants.(FD)
15 The idols of the nations(FE) are silver and gold,
made by human hands.(FF)
16 They have mouths, but cannot speak,(FG)
eyes, but cannot see.
17 They have ears, but cannot hear,
nor is there breath(FH) in their mouths.
18 Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them.
19 All you Israelites, praise the Lord;(FI)
house of Aaron, praise the Lord;
20 house of Levi, praise the Lord;
you who fear him, praise the Lord.
21 Praise be to the Lord from Zion,(FJ)
to him who dwells in Jerusalem.(FK)
Praise the Lord.

1 Timothy 6
New International Version
6 All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect,(A) so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered.(B) 2 Those who have believing masters should not show them disrespect just because they are fellow believers.(C) Instead, they should serve them even better because their masters are dear to them as fellow believers and are devoted to the welfare[a] of their slaves.
False Teachers and the Love of Money
These are the things you are to teach and insist on.(D) 3 If anyone teaches otherwise(E) and does not agree to the sound instruction(F) of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4 they are conceited(G) and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words(H) that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5 and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth(I) and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.
6 But godliness with contentment(J) is great gain.(K) 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.(L) 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.(M) 9 Those who want to get rich(N) fall into temptation and a trap(O) and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money(P) is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith(Q) and pierced themselves with many griefs.(R)
Final Charge to Timothy
11 But you, man of God,(S) flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness,(T) faith, love,(U) endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight(V) of the faith. Take hold of(W) the eternal life(X) to which you were called when you made your good confession(Y) in the presence of many witnesses. 13 In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate(Z) made the good confession,(AA) I charge you(AB) 14 to keep this command without spot or blame(AC) until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,(AD) 15 which God will bring about in his own time(AE)—God, the blessed(AF) and only Ruler,(AG) the King of kings and Lord of lords,(AH) 16 who alone is immortal(AI) and who lives in unapproachable light,(AJ) whom no one has seen or can see.(AK) To him be honor and might forever. Amen.(AL)
17 Command those who are rich(AM) in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth,(AN) which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God,(AO) who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.(AP) 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds,(AQ) and to be generous and willing to share.(AR) 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves(AS) as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of(AT) the life that is truly life.
20 Timothy, guard what has been entrusted(AU) to your care. Turn away from godless chatter(AV) and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, 21 which some have professed and in so doing have departed from the faith.(AW)
Grace be with you all.(AX)
