How can (A)a young man keep his way pure?
    By guarding it according to your word.
10 (B)With my whole heart I seek you;
    let me not (C)wander from your commandments!
11 I have (D)stored up your word in my heart,
    that I might not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, O Lord;
    (E)teach me your statutes!
13 With my lips I (F)declare
    all the rules[a] of your mouth.
14 In the way of your testimonies I (G)delight
    as much as in all (H)riches.
15 I will (I)meditate on your precepts
    and fix my eyes on your (J)ways.
16 I will (K)delight in your statutes;
    I will not forget your word.

  1. Psalm 119:13 Or all the just decrees

The Coming Glory of the Temple

(A)In the seventh month, on the twenty-first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet: “Speak now to (B)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to (C)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to all the remnant of the people, and say, (D)‘Who is left among you who saw this house (E)in its former glory? How do you see it now? (F)Is it not as nothing in your eyes? Yet now (G)be strong, O (H)Zerubbabel, declares the Lord. (I)Be strong, O (J)Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. (K)Be strong, all you people of the land, declares the Lord. (L)Work, for (M)I am with you, declares the Lord of hosts, (N)according to the covenant that I made with you when you came out of Egypt. (O)My Spirit remains in your midst. (P)Fear not. For thus says the Lord of hosts: (Q)Yet once more, in a little while, (R)I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in, and (S)I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of hosts. (T)The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, declares the Lord of hosts. (U)The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts. And (V)in this place I will give peace, declares the Lord of hosts.’”

34 So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that (A)the Christ remains forever. How can you say that (B)the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?” 35 So Jesus said to them, (C)“The light is among you (D)for a little while longer. (E)Walk while you have the light, lest darkness (F)overtake you. (G)The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become (H)sons of light.”

The Unbelief of the People

When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them. 37 Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, 38 (I)so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:

(J)“Lord, who has believed what he heard from us,
    and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”

39 Therefore they (K)could not believe. For again Isaiah said,

40 (L)“He has blinded their eyes
    and (M)hardened their heart,
lest they see with their eyes,
    and understand with their heart, and turn,
    and I would heal them.”

41 Isaiah said these things because (N)he saw his glory and (O)spoke of him. 42 Nevertheless, (P)many even of the authorities believed in him, but (Q)for fear of the Pharisees they did not (R)confess it, so that they would not be (S)put out of the synagogue; 43 (T)for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.

Jesus Came to Save the World

44 And Jesus cried out and said, (U)“Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but (V)in him who sent me. 45 And (W)whoever (X)sees me sees him who sent me. 46 (Y)I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. 47 If anyone (Z)hears my words and does not keep them, (AA)I do not judge him; for (AB)I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. 48 (AC)The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; (AD)the word that I have spoken will judge him (AE)on the last day. 49 For (AF)I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father (AG)who sent me has himself given me (AH)a commandment—what to say and what to speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me.”
