Proverbs 9
Revised Geneva Translation
9 Wisdom has built her house; hewn out her seven pillars.
2 She has killed her victuals, drawn her wine, and prepared her table.
3 She has sent forth her maidens; cries upon the highest places of the city, saying,
4 “Whoever is simple, let him come here.” To whomever is destitute of wisdom, she says,
5 “Come, eat of my food and drink of the wine I have drawn.
6 “Forsake foolishness and you shall live, and walk in the way of understanding.
7 “He that reproves a scoffer, gets himself shame. And he who rebukes the wicked, gets himself a blot.
8 “Do not rebuke a scoffer, lest he hate you. Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
9 “Give to the wise, and he will be the wiser. Teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.
10 “The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the LORD. And the knowledge of holy things is understanding.
11 “For your days shall be multiplied by me. And the years of your life shall be augmented.
12 “If you are wise, you shall be wise for yourself. If you are a scoffer, you alone shall suffer.”
13 A foolish woman is troublesome; she is ignorant and knows nothing.
14 But she sits at the door of her house on a seat in the high places of the city,
15 to call those who pass by the way — that go right on their way — saying,
16 “Who so is simple? Let him come here.” And to him who is destitute of wisdom, she says also,
17 “Stolen waters are sweet. And hidden bread is pleasant.”
18 But he does not know that the dead are there, and that her guests are in the depth of Hell. THE PARABLE OF SOLOMON.
