Proverbs 9

Revised Geneva Translation

9 Wisdom has built her house; hewn out her seven pillars.

² She has killed her victuals, drawn her wine, and prepared her table.

³ She has sent forth her maidens; cries upon the highest places of the city, saying,

⁴ “Whoever is simple, let him come here.” To whomever is destitute of wisdom, she says,

⁵ “Come, eat of my food and drink of the wine I have drawn.

⁶ “Forsake foolishness and you shall live, and walk in the way of understanding.

⁷ “He that reproves a scoffer, gets himself shame. And he who rebukes the wicked, gets himself a blot.

⁸ “Do not rebuke a scoffer, lest he hate you. Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.

⁹ “Give to the wise, and he will be the wiser. Teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.

¹⁰ “The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the LORD. And the knowledge of holy things is understanding.

¹¹ “For your days shall be multiplied by me. And the years of your life shall be augmented.

¹² “If you are wise, you shall be wise for yourself. If you are a scoffer, you alone shall suffer.”

¹³ A foolish woman is troublesome; she is ignorant and knows nothing.

¹⁴ But she sits at the door of her house on a seat in the high places of the city,

¹⁵ to call those who pass by the way — that go right on their way — saying,

¹⁶ “Who so is simple? Let him come here.” And to him who is destitute of wisdom, she says also,

¹⁷ “Stolen waters are sweet. And hidden bread is pleasant.”

¹⁸ But he does not know that the dead are there, and that her guests are in the depth of Hell. THE PARABLE OF SOLOMON.
