Hoffnung für Alle
Die Weisheit und die Torheit
9 Frau Weisheit hat ein Haus gebaut
und es mit sieben Säulen ausgestattet.
2 Sie hat ein Festessen vorbereitet,
Wein mit feinen Gewürzen gemischt
und den Tisch gedeckt.
3 Ihren Dienstmädchen befahl sie:
»Geht auf den Marktplatz der Stadt und ruft:
4 ›Ihr Unerfahrenen – kommt zu mir!
Wem es an Vernunft fehlt, 5 den lade ich ein.
Kommt, esst euch satt und trinkt meinen guten Wein!
6 Bleibt nicht länger unverständig,
sondern werdet reif und besonnen!
Dann wird euer Leben gelingen.‹«
7 Wer einen Spötter ermahnt, erntet nichts als Verachtung, und wer einen gottlosen Menschen tadelt, kommt nicht heil davon. 8 Darum weise nie einen Spötter zurecht, sonst hasst er dich. Ermahne lieber einen verständigen Menschen, denn er wird dich dafür lieben. 9 Unterweise den Klugen, und er wird noch klüger. Belehre den, der Gott gehorcht, und er wird immer mehr dazulernen.
10 Alle Weisheit beginnt damit, dass man Ehrfurcht vor dem Herrn hat. Den heiligen Gott kennen, das ist Einsicht! 11 Ich, die Weisheit, schenke dir ein langes Leben. 12 Du tust dir selbst etwas Gutes, wenn du weise bist; aber wenn du über alles mit Spott hinweggehst, schadest du dir selbst.
13 Frau Torheit gleicht einer schamlosen Hure,
sie ist eine vorlaute Schwätzerin,
die sich auf nichts versteht.
14 Sie sitzt vor ihrer Haustür,
hoch oben am Marktplatz der Stadt,
15 und ruft allen zu, die vorbeigehen
und an nichts Böses denken:
16 »Wer unerfahren ist, den lade ich ein!«
Sie beschwatzt die Unvernünftigen:
17 »Das Wasser anderer Leute ist ein Genuss,
und nichts schmeckt besser als gestohlenes Brot!«
18 Wer auf sie hereinfällt,
weiß nicht, dass es seinen sicheren Tod bedeutet.
Alle, die zu ihr gegangen sind,
ruhen schon im Totenreich.

9 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.
3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,
4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.
8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.
13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.
14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:
16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

The Way of Wisdom
9 (A)Wisdom has built her house;
she has hewn her (B)seven (C)pillars.
2 She has (D)slaughtered her beasts; she has (E)mixed her wine;
she has also (F)set her table.
3 She has (G)sent out her young women to (H)call
from (I)the highest places in the town,
4 (J)“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
(K)To him who lacks sense she says,
5 “Come, (L)eat of my bread
and (M)drink of (N)the wine I have mixed.
6 Leave (O)your simple ways,[a] and (P)live,
(Q)and walk in the way of insight.”
7 Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse,
and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury.
8 (R)Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you;
(S)reprove a wise man, and he will love you.
9 Give instruction[b] to a wise man, and he will be (T)still wiser;
teach a righteous man, and he will (U)increase in learning.
10 (V)The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and (W)the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.

The Way of Folly
13 (Z)The woman Folly is (AA)loud;
she is seductive[c] and (AB)knows nothing.
14 She sits at the door of her house;
she takes a seat on (AC)the highest places of the town,
15 calling to those who pass by,
who are (AD)going straight on their way,
16 (AE)“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
And to him who lacks sense she says,
