Warning About Adultery
5 My son, pay attention to my wisdom.
Listen to my words of understanding.
2 Be careful to use good sense.
Watch what you say.
3 The words of another man’s wife may seem sweet as honey.
Her words may be as pleasant as olive oil.
4 But in the end she will bring you sorrow.
She will cause you pain like a two-edged sword.
5 She is on the way to death.
Her steps are headed straight to the grave.
6 She gives no thought to life.
She does not know that her ways are wrong.
7 Now, my sons, listen to me.
Don’t ignore what I say.
8 Stay away from such a woman.
Don’t even go near the door of her house.
9 If you do, you will give your riches to others.
And the best years of your life will be given to someone who is cruel.
10 Strangers will enjoy your wealth.
And what you worked so hard for will go to someone else.
11 You will groan at the end of your life.
Then your health will be gone.
12 Then you will say, “I hated self-control!
I would not listen when I was corrected!
13 I would not listen to my teachers.
I paid no attention to what they taught me.
14 I have come very close to being completely ruined
in front of a whole group of people.”
15 Be faithful to your own wife.
She is like your own well of water from which you drink.
16 You wouldn’t drink from streams
flowing in the city streets or squares.
So be satisfied with your wife,
not those outside your home.
17 These things are yours alone.
Don’t share them with strangers.
18 Be happy with the wife
you married when you were young.
She gives you joys
as your fountain gives you water.
19 She is as lovely and graceful as a deer.
Let her love always make you happy.
Let her love always hold you captive.
20 My son, don’t be held captive by a woman who takes part in adultery.
Don’t hold another man’s wife.
21 The Lord sees everything you do.
He watches where you go.
22 An evil man will be caught in his evil ways.
He will be tied up by his sins as if they were ropes.
23 He will die because he does not control himself.
He will be held captive by his own foolishness.

Предостережение против нарушения супружеской верности
5 Сын мой, будь внимателен к моей мудрости,
внимай моему разуму,
2 чтобы тебе сохранить рассудительность,
и чтобы речь[a] твоя всегда выказывала знание.
3 Ведь уста чужой жены сочатся медом,
и речь ее – мягче масла;
4 но под конец она горька, как полынь,
остра, как меч обоюдоострый.
5 Нисходят ноги ее к смерти,
ее шаги ведут в мир мертвых.
6 О стезе жизни она и не думает;
кривы ее тропы, а она и не знает.
7 Итак, сыновья, послушайте меня;
не отклоняйтесь от того, что я говорю.
8 Держи свой путь от нее подальше,
к дверям ее дома не приближайся,
9 чтобы чести[b] своей не отдать другим,
и безжалостным – своих лет,
10 чтобы богатством твоим не насыщались чужие,
и твой труд не обогатил чужого дома.
11 Не то под конец жизни ты будешь стонать,
когда плоть и тело твои будут истощены.
12 Будешь говорить: «Как ненавидел я наставление!
Как сердце мое презирало упрек!
13 Я не слушался учителей
и наставникам не внимал.
14 Я стою на краю окончательной гибели
у всего собрания на глазах».
15 Пей воду из своего водоема,

16 Зачем твоим родникам растекаться по улицам
и потокам вод твоих – по площадям?
17 Пусть они будут только твоими[d],
с чужими не делись.
18 Пусть источник твой будет благословен.
Радуйся жене твоей юности,
19 прекрасной лани, изящной серне.
Пусть груди ее утоляют твое желание во всякое время,
пусть всегда ты будешь опьянен ее любовью.
20 Зачем, мой сын, опьяняться тебе другой
и обнимать стан чужой жены?
21 Ведь пути человека открыты Господу,
и Он наблюдает за всеми его тропами.
22 Грехи нечестивого ловят его в западню;
крепко держат его узы собственного греха.
23 Гибнет он, не получив наставления,
и сбивается с пути по великой своей глупости.

King James Version
5 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
7 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9 Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
10 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
11 And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.
22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

5 My son, pay attention to my wisdom;
[a]Lend your ear to my understanding,
2 That you may [b]preserve discretion,
And your lips (A)may keep knowledge.
3 (B)For the lips of [c]an immoral woman drip honey,
And her mouth is (C)smoother than oil;
4 But in the end she is bitter as wormwood,
Sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death,
(D)Her steps lay hold of [d]hell.
6 Lest you ponder her path of life—
Her ways are unstable;
You do not know them.
7 Therefore hear me now, my children,
And do not depart from the words of my mouth.

And your years to the cruel one;
10 Lest aliens be filled with your [f]wealth,
And your labors go to the house of a foreigner;
