³⁹ But I tell you, don’t resist^[a] an evildoer. On the contrary, if anyone slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.^(A)

¹⁷ Do not repay anyone evil for evil.^(A) Give careful thought to do what is honourable^(B) in everyone’s eyes.

¹⁹ Friends, do not avenge yourselves; instead, leave room for God’s wrath, because it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay,^[a](A) says the Lord.

¹⁵ See to it that no one repays evil for evil^(A) to anyone,^(B) but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.^(C)

⁹ not paying back evil for evil^(A) or insult for insult but, on the contrary, giving a blessing,^(B) since you were called for this, so that you may inherit a blessing.
