Proverbs 17:6-8
The Message
6 Old people are distinguished by grandchildren;
children take pride in their parents.
7 We don’t expect eloquence from fools,
nor do we expect lies from our leaders.
8 Receiving a gift is like getting a rare gemstone;
any way you look at it, you see beauty refracted.
Proverbs 17:6-8
New International Version
6 Children’s children(A) are a crown to the aged,
and parents are the pride of their children.
7 Eloquent lips are unsuited to a godless fool—
how much worse lying lips to a ruler!(B)
8 A bribe is seen as a charm by the one who gives it;
they think success will come at every turn.(C)
