¹⁹ Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things.^(A)

⁸ “If your hand or your foot causes you to sin,^[a] cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than to have two hands or two feet and to be thrown into the eternal fire.^{(A) 9} And if your eye causes you to sin,^[b] tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and to be thrown into the hell^[c] of fire.^(B)

²⁷ but I punish my body and enslave it, so that after proclaiming to others I myself should not be disqualified.^(A)
