¹⁵Perhaps it was for this reason that he was separated [from you] for a while, that you might have him back as yours forever,

¹⁶Not as a slave any longer but as [something] more than a slave, as a brother [Christian], especially dear to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh [as a servant] and in the Lord [as a fellow believer].

¹⁷If then you consider me a partner and a ^[a]comrade in fellowship, welcome and receive him as you would [welcome and receive] me.

¹⁵Perhaps the reason he was separated from you for a little while was that you might have him back forever— ¹⁶no longer as a slave,^(A) but better than a slave, as a dear brother.^(B) He is very dear to me but even dearer to you, both as a fellow man and as a brother in the Lord.

¹⁷So if you consider me a partner,^(C) welcome him as you would welcome me.
