39 And the children of (A)Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it, and [a]dispossessed the Amorites who were in it. 40 So Moses (B)gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he dwelt in it. 41 Also (C)Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its small towns, and called them (D)Havoth Jair.[b]

39 The descendants of Makir(A) son of Manasseh went to Gilead,(B) captured it and drove out the Amorites(C) who were there. 40 So Moses gave Gilead to the Makirites,(D) the descendants of Manasseh, and they settled there. 41 Jair,(E) a descendant of Manasseh, captured their settlements and called them Havvoth Jair.[a](F)
