Then Moses sent them out, 1,000 men from each tribe, and Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest led them into battle. They carried along the holy objects of the sanctuary and the trumpets for sounding the charge. They attacked Midian as the Lord had commanded Moses, and they killed all the men. All five of the Midianite kings—Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba—died in the battle. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.

Moses sent them into battle,(A) a thousand from each tribe, along with Phinehas(B) son of Eleazar, the priest, who took with him articles from the sanctuary(C) and the trumpets(D) for signaling.

They fought against Midian, as the Lord commanded Moses,(E) and killed every man.(F) Among their victims were Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba(G)—the five kings of Midian.(H) They also killed Balaam son of Beor(I) with the sword.(J)
