The People Are Counted
26 After the great sickness, the Lord spoke to Moses and Eleazar son of Aaron, the priest. He said, 2 “Count all the people of Israel by families. Count all the men who are 20 years old or older. They will serve in the army of Israel.” 3 Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke to the people. They were on the plains of Moab near the Jordan River, across from Jericho. They said, 4 “Count the men 20 years old or older. This is what the Lord commanded Moses.”
Here are the Israelites who came out of Egypt:
5 The tribe of Reuben was counted. Reuben was the first son born to Israel. From Hanoch came the Hanochite family group. From Pallu came the Palluite family group. 6 From Hezron came the Hezronite family group. From Carmi came the Carmite family group. 7 These were the family groups of Reuben. The total number of men was 43,730.
8 The son of Pallu was Eliab. 9 Eliab’s sons were Nemuel, Dathan and Abiram. Dathan and Abiram were the leaders who turned against Moses and Aaron. They followed Korah when he turned against the Lord. 10 The earth opened up and swallowed them and Korah. They died when the fire burned up the 250 men. This was a warning. 11 But the children of Korah did not die.
12 These were the family groups in the tribe of Simeon. From Nemuel came the Nemuelite family group. From Jamin came the Jaminite family group. From Jakin came the Jakinite family group. 13 From Zerah came the Zerahite family group. From Shaul came the Shaulite family group. 14 These were the family groups of Simeon. The total number of men was 22,200.
15 These were the family groups in the tribe of Gad. From Zephon came the Zephonite family group. From Haggi came the Haggite family group. From Shuni came the Shunite family group. 16 From Ozni came the Oznite family group. From Eri came the Erite family group. 17 From Arodi came the Arodite family group. From Areli came the Arelite family group. 18 These were the family groups of Gad. The total number of men was 40,500.
19 Two of Judah’s sons, Er and Onan, died in Canaan.
20 These were the family groups in the tribe of Judah. From Shelah came the Shelanite family group. From Perez came the Perezite family group. From Zerah came the Zerahite family group. 21 These were the family groups from Perez. From Hezron came the Hezronite family group. From Hamul came the Hamulite family group. 22 These were the family groups of Judah. The total number of men was 76,500.
23 These were the family groups in the tribe of Issachar. From Tola came the Tolaite family group. From Puah came the Puite family group. 24 From Jashub came the Jashubite family group. From Shimron came the Shimronite family group. 25 These were the family groups of Issachar. The total number of men was 64,300.
26 These were the family groups in the tribe of Zebulun. From Sered came the Seredite family group. From Elon came the Elonite family group. From Jahleel came the Jahleelite family group. 27 These were the family groups of Zebulun. The total number of men was 60,500.
28 These were the family groups of Joseph through Manasseh and Ephraim.
29 These were the family groups of Manasseh. From Makir came the Makirite family group. (Makir was the father of Gilead.) From Gilead came the Gileadite family group. 30 These were the family groups that came from Gilead. From Iezer came the Iezerite family group. From Helek came the Helekite family group. 31 From Asriel came the Asrielite family group. From Shechem came the Shechemite family group. 32 From Shemida came the Shemidaite family group. From Hepher came the Hepherite family group. 33 (Zelophehad son of Hepher had no sons. He had only daughters. Their names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.) 34 These were the family groups of Manasseh. The total number of men was 52,700.
35 These were the family groups in the tribe of Ephraim. From Shuthelah came the Shuthelahite family group. From Beker came the Bekerite family group. From Tahan came the Tahanite family group. 36 This was the family group from Shuthelah. From Eran came the Eranite family group. 37 These were the family groups of Ephraim. The total number of men was 32,500. These are the family groups that came from Joseph.
38 These were the family groups in the tribe of Benjamin. From Bela came the Belaite family group. From Ashbel came the Ashbelite family group. From Ahiram came the Ahiramite family group. 39 From Shupham came the Shuphamite family group. From Hupham came the Huphamite family group. 40 These were the family groups from Bela through Ard and Naaman. From Ard came the Ardite family group. From Naaman came the Naamite family group. 41 These were the family groups of Benjamin. The total number of men was 45,600.
42 This was the family group in the tribe of Dan. From Shuham came the Shuhamite family group. That was the family of Dan. 43 The total number of men in the Shuhamite family group of Dan was 64,400.
44 These were the family groups in the tribe of Asher. From Imnah came the Imnite family group. From Ishvi came the Ishvite family group. From Beriah came the Beriite family group. 45 These were the family groups that came from Beriah. From Heber came the Heberite family group. From Malkiel came the Malkielite family group. 46 (Asher also had a daughter named Serah.) 47 These were the family groups of Asher. The total number of men was 53,400.
48 These were the family groups in the tribe of Naphtali. From Jahzeel came the Jahzeelite family group. From Guni came the Gunite family group. 49 From Jezer came the Jezerite family group. From Shillem came the Shillemite family group. 50 These were the family groups of Naphtali. The total number of men was 45,400.
51 So the total number of the men of Israel was 601,730.
52 The Lord said to Moses, 53 “Divide the land among these people by the number of names. 54 A large tribe will get more land. And a small tribe will get less land. The amount of land each tribe gets will depend on the number of its people. 55 Divide the land by drawing lots. And the land each tribe gets will be named for that tribe. 56 Divide the land by drawing lots. Divide it between large and small groups.”
57 The tribe of Levi was also counted. These were the family groups of Levi. From Gershon came the Gershonite family group. From Kohath came the Kohathite family group. From Merari came the Merarite family group. 58 These also were Levite family groups: the Libnite family group, the Hebronite family group, the Mahlite family group, the Mushite family group and the Korahite family group. (Kohath was the ancestor of Amram. 59 Amram’s wife was named Jochebed. She was from the tribe of Levi. She was born in Egypt. She and Amram had two sons, Aaron and Moses, and their sister Miriam. 60 Aaron was the father of Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. 61 But Nadab and Abihu died. They died because they made an offering before the Lord with the wrong kind of fire.)
62 The total number of male Levites one month old or older was 23,000. But these men were not counted with the other Israelites. They did not receive any of the land that the Lord gave the other Israelites.
63 Moses and Eleazar the priest counted all these people. They counted the Israelites on the plains of Moab across the Jordan River from Jericho. 64 Moses and Aaron the priest had counted the Israelites in the Desert of Sinai. But no one Moses counted on the plains of Moab was in the first counting. 65 The Lord had told the Israelites they would all die in the desert. The only two left were Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

6 de Hezrón, la familia de los hezronitas; de Carmi, la familia de los carmitas.
7 Estas son las familias de los rubenitas; y sus contados fueron cuarenta y tres mil setecientos treinta.
8 Y los hijos de Falú: Eliab.
9 Y los hijos de Eliab: Nemuel, Datán, y Abiram. Estos Datán y Abiram fueron los del consejo de la congregación, que hicieron el motín contra Moisés y Aarón con la compañía de Coré, cuando se amotinaron contra el SEÑOR.
10 Que la tierra abrió su boca y tragó a ellos y a Coré, cuando aquella compañía murió, cuando consumió el fuego doscientos cincuenta varones, los cuales fueron por ejemplo.
11 Mas los hijos de Coré no murieron.
12 Los hijos de Simeón por sus familias: de Nemuel, la familia de los nemuelitas; de Jamín, la familia de los jaminitas; de Jaquín, la familia de los jaquinitas;
13 de Zera, la familia de los zeraítas; de Saúl, la familia de los saulitas.
14 Estas son las familias de los simeonitas, veintidós mil doscientos.
15 Los hijos de Gad por sus familias: de Zefón, la familia de los zefonitas; de Hagui, la familia de los haguitas; de Suni, la familia de los sunitas;
16 de Ozni, la familia de los oznitas; de Eri, la familia de los eritas;
17 de Arod, la familia de los aroditas; de Areli, la familia de los arelitas.
18 Estas son las familias de Gad, por sus contados, cuarenta mil quinientos.
19 Los hijos de Judá: Er y Onán; y Er y Onán murieron en la tierra de Canaán.
20 Y fueron los hijos de Judá por sus familias: de Sela, la familia de los selaítas; de Fares, la familia de los faresitas; de Zera, la familia de los zeraítas.

24 de Jasub, la familia de los jasubitas; de Simrón, la familia de los simronitas.
25 Estas son las familias de Isacar, por sus contados, sesenta y cuatro mil trescientos.
26 Los hijos de Zabulón por sus familias: de Sered, la familia de los sereditas; de Elón, la familia de los elonitas; de Jahleel, la familia de los jahleelitas.
27 Estas son las familias de los zabulonitas, por sus contados, sesenta mil quinientos.
28 Los hijos de José por sus familias: Manasés y Efraín.
29 Los hijos de Manasés: de Maquir, la familia de los maquiritas; y Maquir engendró a Galaad; de Galaad, la familia de los galaaditas.
30 Estos son los hijos de Galaad: de Jezer, la familia de los jezeritas; de Helec, la familia de los helequitas;
31 de Asriel, la familia de los asrielitas; de Siquem, la familia de los siquemitas;
32 de Semida, la familia de los semidaítas; de Hefer, la familia de los heferitas.
33 Y Zelofehad, hijo de Hefer, no tuvo hijos sino hijas; y los nombres de las hijas de Zelofehad fueron Maala, y Noa, y Hogla, y Milca, y Tirsa.
34 Estas son las familias de Manasés; y sus contados, cincuenta y dos mil setecientos.
35 Estos son los hijos de Efraín por sus familias: de Sutela, la familia de los sutelaítas; de Bequer, la familia de los bequeritas; de Tahán, la familia de los tahanitas.
36 Y éstos son los hijos de Sutela: de Erán, la familia de los eranitas.
37 Estas son las familias de los hijos de Efraín, por sus contados, treinta y dos mil quinientos. Estos son los hijos de José por sus familias.
38 Los hijos de Benjamín por sus familias: de Bela, la familia de los belaítas; de Asbel, la familia de los asbelitas; de Ahiram, la familia de los ahiramitas;
39 de Sufam, la familia de los sufamitas; de Hufam, la familia de los hufamitas.
40 Y los hijos de Bela fueron Ard y Naamán: de Ard, la familia de los arditas; de Naamán, la familia de los naamitas.
41 Estos son los hijos de Benjamín por sus familias; y sus contados, cuarenta y cinco mil seiscientos.
42 Estos son los hijos de Dan por sus familias: de Súham, la familia de los suhamitas. Estas son las familias de Dan por sus familias.
43 Todas las familias de los suhamitas, por sus contados, sesenta y cuatro mil cuatrocientos.
44 Los hijos de Aser por sus familias: de Imna, la familia de los imnitas; de Isúi, la familia de los isuitas; de Bería, la familia de los beriaítas.
45 Los hijos de Bería: de Heber, la familia de los heberitas; de Malquiel, la familia de los malquielitas.
46 Y el nombre de la hija de Aser fue Sera.
47 Estas son las familias de los hijos de Aser, por sus contados, cincuenta y tres mil cuatrocientos.
48 Los hijos de Neftalí por sus familias: de Jahzeel, la familia de los jahzeelitas; de Guni, la familia de los gunitas;
49 de Jezer, la familia de los jezeritas; de Silem, la familia de los silemitas.
50 Estas son las familias de Neftalí por sus familias; y sus contados, cuarenta y cinco mil cuatrocientos.
51 Estos son los contados de los hijos de Israel, seiscientos un mil setecientos treinta.
52 ¶ Y habló el SEÑOR a Moisés, diciendo:
53 A éstos se repartirá la tierra en heredad, por la cuenta de los nombres.
54 A las más numerosas darás mayor heredad, y a las menos numerosas menor; y a cada una se le dará su heredad conforme a sus contados.
55 Pero la tierra será repartida por suerte; y por los nombres de las tribus de sus padres heredarán.
56 Conforme a la suerte será repartida su heredad entre el grande y el pequeño.
57 ¶ Y los contados de los levitas por sus familias son éstos: de Gersón, la familia de los gersonitas; de Coat, la familia de los coatitas; de Merari, la familia de los meraritas.
58 Estas son las familias de los levitas: la familia de los libnitas, la familia de los hebronitas, la familia de los mahlitas, la familia de los musitas, la familia de los coreítas. Y Coat engendró a Amram.
59 Y la mujer de Amram se llamó Jocabed, hija de Leví, la cual le nació a Leví en Egipto: ésta dio a luz de Amram a Aarón y a Moisés, y a María su hermana.
60 Y de Aarón nacieron Nadab y Abiú, Eleazar e Itamar.
61 Mas Nadab y Abiú murieron, cuando ofrecieron fuego extraño delante del SEÑOR.
62 Y sus contados fueron veintitrés mil, todos varones de un mes arriba; porque no fueron contados entre los hijos de Israel, por cuanto no les había de ser dada heredad entre los hijos de Israel.
63 ¶ Estos son los contados por Moisés y Eleazar el sacerdote, los cuales contaron los hijos de Israel en los campos de Moab, junto al Jordán de Jericó.
64 Y entre éstos ninguno hubo de los contados por Moisés y Aarón el sacerdote, los cuales contaron a los hijos de Israel en el desierto de Sinaí.
65 Porque el SEÑOR les dijo: Ciertamente morirán en el desierto; y no quedó varón de ellos, sino Caleb hijo de Jefone, y Josué hijo de Nun.

26 (A)After the plague, the Lord said to Moses and to Eleazar the son of Aaron, the priest, 2 (B)“Take a census of all the congregation of the people of Israel, from twenty years old and upward, by their fathers' houses, all in Israel who are able to go to war.” 3 And Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them (C)in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying, 4 “Take a census of the people,[a] from twenty years old and upward,” as the Lord (D)commanded Moses. The people of Israel who came out of the land of Egypt were:
5 (E)Reuben, the firstborn of Israel; the sons of Reuben: of Hanoch, the clan of the Hanochites; of Pallu, the clan of the Palluites; 6 of Hezron, the clan of the Hezronites; of Carmi, the clan of the Carmites. 7 These are the clans of the Reubenites, and those listed were (F)43,730. 8 And the sons of Pallu: Eliab. 9 The sons of Eliab: Nemuel, Dathan, and Abiram. These are the Dathan and Abiram, (G)chosen from the congregation, who contended against Moses and Aaron in the company of Korah, when they contended against the Lord 10 and (H)the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, when the fire devoured 250 men, and (I)they became a warning. 11 But (J)the sons of Korah did not die.
12 The sons of (K)Simeon according to their clans: of Nemuel, the clan of the Nemuelites; of Jamin, the clan of the Jaminites; of Jachin, the clan of the Jachinites; 13 of Zerah, the clan of the Zerahites; of Shaul, the clan of the Shaulites. 14 These are the clans of the Simeonites, (L)22,200.

23 The sons of (Q)Issachar according to their clans: of Tola, the clan of the Tolaites; of Puvah, the clan of the Punites; 24 of Jashub, the clan of the Jashubites; of Shimron, the clan of the Shimronites. 25 These are the clans of Issachar as they were listed, (R)64,300.
26 The sons of (S)Zebulun, according to their clans: of Sered, the clan of the Seredites; of Elon, the clan of the Elonites; of Jahleel, the clan of the Jahleelites. 27 These are the clans of the Zebulunites as they were listed, (T)60,500.
28 The sons of (U)Joseph according to their clans: Manasseh and Ephraim. 29 (V)The sons of Manasseh: of (W)Machir, the clan of the Machirites; and Machir was the father of Gilead; (X)of Gilead, the clan of the Gileadites. 30 These are the sons of Gilead: of Iezer, the clan of the Iezerites; of Helek, the clan of the Helekites; 31 and of Asriel, the clan of the Asrielites; and of Shechem, the clan of the Shechemites; 32 and of Shemida, the clan of the Shemidaites; and of Hepher, the clan of the Hepherites. 33 Now (Y)Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters. And the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. 34 These are the clans of Manasseh, and those listed were (Z)52,700.
35 These are the sons of Ephraim according to their clans: of Shuthelah, the clan of the Shuthelahites; of Becher, the clan of the Becherites; of Tahan, the clan of the Tahanites. 36 And these are the sons of Shuthelah: of Eran, the clan of the Eranites. 37 These are the clans of the sons of Ephraim as they were listed, (AA)32,500. These are the sons of Joseph according to their clans.
38 The sons of (AB)Benjamin according to their clans: of Bela, the clan of the Belaites; of Ashbel, the clan of the Ashbelites; of Ahiram, the clan of the Ahiramites; 39 of Shephupham, the clan of the Shuphamites; of Hupham, the clan of the Huphamites. 40 And the sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman: of Ard, the clan of the Ardites; of Naaman, the clan of the Naamites. 41 These are the sons of Benjamin according to their clans, and those listed were (AC)45,600.
42 These are the sons of (AD)Dan according to their clans: of Shuham, the clan of the Shuhamites. These are the clans of Dan according to their clans. 43 All the clans of the Shuhamites, as they were listed, were (AE)64,400.
44 The sons of (AF)Asher according to their clans: of Imnah, the clan of the Imnites; of Ishvi, the clan of the Ishvites; of Beriah, the clan of the Beriites. 45 Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the clan of the Heberites; of Malchiel, the clan of the Malchielites. 46 And the name of the daughter of Asher was Serah. 47 These are the clans of the sons of Asher as they were listed, (AG)53,400.
48 The sons of (AH)Naphtali according to their clans: of Jahzeel, the clan of the Jahzeelites; of Guni, the clan of the Gunites; 49 of Jezer, the clan of the Jezerites; of Shillem, the clan of the Shillemites. 50 These are the clans of Naphtali according to their clans, and those listed were (AI)45,400.
51 This was the list of the people of Israel, (AJ)601,730.
52 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 53 (AK)“Among these the land shall be divided for inheritance according to the number of names. 54 (AL)To a large tribe you shall give a large inheritance, and to a small tribe you shall give a small inheritance; every tribe shall be given its inheritance in proportion to its list. 55 But the land shall be (AM)divided by lot. According to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit. 56 Their inheritance shall be divided according to lot between the larger and the smaller.”
57 (AN)This was the list of the Levites according to their clans: of Gershon, the clan of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the clan of the Kohathites; of Merari, the clan of the Merarites. 58 These are the clans of Levi: the clan of the Libnites, the clan of the Hebronites, the clan of the Mahlites, the clan of the Mushites, the clan of the Korahites. And Kohath was the father of Amram. 59 The name of Amram's wife was (AO)Jochebed the daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in Egypt. And she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses and Miriam their sister. 60 (AP)And to Aaron were born Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 61 (AQ)But Nadab and Abihu died when they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord. 62 And those listed were (AR)23,000, every male from a month old and upward. For (AS)they were not listed among the people of Israel, because (AT)there was no inheritance given to them among the people of Israel.
63 These were those listed by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who listed the people of Israel (AU)in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho. 64 (AV)But among these there was not one of those listed by Moses and Aaron the priest, who had listed the people of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. 65 For the Lord had said of them, (AW)“They shall die in the wilderness.” Not one of them was left, (AX)except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.
