The Duties of the Priests and Levities
18 Yahweh said to Aaron, “You, your sons, and your family with you will bear the guilt of the sanctuary, and you and your sons with you will bear the guilt of your priesthood. 2 Moreover, bring your brothers with you, the tribe of Levi the tribe of your father, that they may be joined to you and minister to you, you and your sons with you before the tent of testimony. 3 They will keep your responsibility and the responsibility of all the tent, only they may not come near the vessels of the sanctuary and the altar, so both you and they will not die. 4 They will be joined to you, and they will keep the responsibility of the tent of assembly for the entire service of the tent; a stranger may not come near you. 5 You will keep the responsibility of the sanctuary and the responsibility of the altar, and there will no longer be wrath on the Israelites.[a] 6 Look, I myself have chosen your brothers the Levites from the midst of the children. They are a gift to you given from Yahweh to perform the work of the tent of assembly. 7 But you with your sons will keep your priesthood to perform your priestly duties for everything at the altar[b] and for the area behind the curtain.[c] I give you the priesthood as a gift, but the stranger who approaches will be put to death.”
Portions for the Priests
8 Yahweh spoke to Aaron, “Behold, I myself have given to you the responsibility of my contributions for all the holy objects of the Israelites;[d] I have given them as a portion to you and your sons as an eternal decree. 9 This will be for you from the sanctuary of the holy things from the fire; all of their offerings, from every grain offering, from every sin offering, and from every guilt offering which they will bring to me is a most holy thing[e] for you and your sons. 10 You will eat it in the most holy place;[f] every male will eat it. It will be a holy object to you. 11 This is also for you: the contribution of their gift of the wave offerings of the children Israel. I have given them to you and your sons and your daughters with you as an eternal decree; whoever is clean in your house may eat it. 12 All the finest olive oil and all the finest new wine and their best grain that they have given to Yahweh, I have given them to you. 13 The firstfruits of all that is in their land that they present to Yahweh will be for you; whoever is clean in your house may eat it. 14 All consecrated possessions[g] in Israel will be for you. 15 All the first offspring of a womb of any creature that they offer to Yahweh, whether human or animal, will be yours; you will surely redeem the firstborn of the human and the unclean firstborn of the animal. 16 As to their price of redemption, from a one-month-old[h] you will redeem them according to your proper value, five shekels of silver according to the shekel of the sanctuary, which is twenty gerah. 17 Only the firstborn of an ox or the firstborn of a sheep or the firstborn of a goat you will not redeem; they are holy. Their blood you will sprinkle over the altar, and their fat you will turn into smoke as an offering made by fire, a fragrance of appeasement for Yahweh. 18 But their flesh will be for you like the breast section of the wave offering, and it will be for you like the right upper thigh. 19 All the contributions of holiness that the Israelites[i] offer to Yahweh I have given to you and your sons and your daughters with you as an eternal decree; it is an eternal covenant of salt before[j] Yahweh to you and your offspring with you.” 20 Then Yahweh said to Aaron, “You will not receive an inheritance in their land, and there will not be a plot of ground for you in the midst of the Israelites.[k]
21 “Behold, I have given to the descendants[l] of Levi every tithe in Israel as an inheritance in return for their service, which they are doing, the work of the tent of assembly. 22 The Israelites[m] will not come near again to the tent of assembly, or they will bear sin[n] and die. 23 The Levites[o] will perform the service of the tent of assembly, and they will bear their guilt, an eternal decree for all your generations. But they will not receive an inheritance in the midst of the Israelites[p] 24 because the tithes[q] of the Israelites[r] that are offered[s] to Yahweh as a contribution, I have given to the Levites as an inheritance; therefore I said to them, ‘They will not receive an inheritance in the midst of the Israelites.’”[t]
25 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 26 “You will speak to the Levites and say to them, ‘When you receive the tithe from the Israelites[u] that I have given to you from them for your inheritance, you will present[v] a contribution from it to Yahweh, a tithe from a tithe. 27 Your contribution will be credited to you like the grain from the threshing floor and like the produce from the press. 28 So you will present[w] your own contribution to Yahweh from all your tithes that you receive from the Israelites;[x] from it you will give the contribution of Yahweh to Aaron the priest. 29 From all your gifts you will present[y] every contribution of Yahweh, from all its fat, the part that is sacred.’ 30 You will say to them, ‘When you are presenting[z] its fat, the rest will be credited to the Levites like a yield of the threshing floor and like a yield from the press. 31 You may eat it anywhere, you and your household, because it is a wage in return for your service in the tent of assembly. 32 You will not bear any sin because you have presented[aa] its fat; you will not defile the holy objects of the Israelites,[ab] or you will die.’”

18 BOG je rekao Aronu: »Ti, tvoji sinovi i tvoja obitelj snosit ćete odgovornost ako počinite grijeh protiv Svetišta, a ti i tvoji sinovi snosit ćete odgovornost ako počinite grijeh u svećeničkoj službi. 2 Dovedi svoju braću Levite iz svoga plemena, da ti se pridruže i da pomažu tebi i tvojim sinovima vršiti službu ispred Šatora saveza. 3 Neka rade za tebe i neka obavljaju dužnosti oko Šatora. No ne smiju prilaziti opremi Svetišta ni žrtveniku. U suprotnom, poginut će i oni i vi. 4 Dakle, pridružit će ti se da bi obavljali dužnosti oko Šatora sastanka i sve što se tiče službe oko Šatora. Nitko drugi ne smije vam se približavati. 5 Obavljajte dužnosti oko Svetišta i žrtvenika, da se ne bih ponovo razljutio na Izraelce. 6 Osobno sam od Izraelaca izabrao vašu braću Levite. Svećenički dio od žrtava
8 BOG je rekao Aronu: »Dajem ti odgovornost za priloge koje mi donosi narod. Sve svete darove, koje Izraelci daju meni, trajno dajem tebi i tvojim sinovima kao vaš dio. 9 Tebi pripada dio najsvetijih žrtava koji se ne spaljuje. Svaki prinos koji mi donose kao najsvetiji prinos—bilo žitnu žrtvu ili žrtvu očišćenja ili žrtvu naknadnicu—pripada tebi i tvojim sinovima. 10 Jedi ga na svetome mjestu[a]. Svako ga muško može jesti. Neka ti prinos bude svet.

17 No prvorođenog mužjaka krave, ovce i koze nemoj otkupljivati jer su sveti. Njihovom krvlju zapljusni žrtvenik i njihov loj spali na vatri da se podigne dim na ugodan miris BOGU. 18 Njihovo meso pripada tebi, kao što ti pripadaju prikazana prsa i desni but. 19 Sve svete priloge, koje Izraelci donose BOGU, dajem tebi i tvojim sinovima i kćerima kao trajan udio. Trajni je to i neraskidivi savez[c] pred BOGOM za tebe i tvoje potomstvo.«
Desetina koja pripada Levitima
20 BOG je rekao Aronu: »Nećeš dobiti nasljedstvo u njihovoj zemlji, niti ćeš imati vlasničkog udjela s njima. Ja sam tvoj dio i tvoje nasljedstvo među Izraelcima.
21 Za službu koju Leviti obavljaju u Šatoru sastanka, dajem im svaku desetinu koju će Izraelci davati od uroda žitarica i novorođenih domaćih životinja. 22 Odsad se Izraelci ne smiju približavati Šatoru sastanka. U suprotnom, na sebe će navući krivnju zbog grijeha i poginuti. 23 Samo će Leviti služiti oko Šatora sastanka i snositi odgovornost ako počine grijeh protiv Šatora. Trajna je to uredba za sve vaše naraštaje: Leviti neće imati nasljedstvo među Izraelcima, 24 nego im u nasljedstvo dajem desetinu koju Izraelci donose kao prilog BOGU. Zato sam za njih rekao da neće dobiti nasljedstvo s Izraelcima.«
Desetina koju Leviti daju svećenicima
25 BOG je rekao Mojsiju: 26 »Reci Levitima: Kad od Izraelaca primite desetinu koju vam dajem u nasljedstvo, desetinu te desetine dajte kao prilog BOGU. 27 Vaš će vam se prilog računati kao žito s gumna ili mlado vino iz tijeska. 28 Tako ćete i vi davati prilog BOGU od svih desetina koje budete primali od Izraelaca, a taj prilog BOGU davat ćete svećeniku Aronu. 29 Od svih darova koje dobijete, odvojite ono najbolje i najsvetije za prilog BOGU.
30 Reci Levitima: Kad Bogu dajete najbolji dio onoga što primate, računat će vam se kao da je prilog s vašega gumna ili iz tijeska. 31 Vi i vaši ukućani možete na svakome mjestu jesti ono što vam preostane. To vam je plaća za poslove oko Šatora sastanka. 32 Ako budete prinosili najbolji dio, nećete na sebe navući grijeh. U suprotnom, oskvrnuli biste svete darove Izraelaca i poginuli zbog toga.«

18 Then the Lord said to Aaron: (A)“You and your sons and your father’s house with you shall (B)bear the [a]iniquity related to the sanctuary, and you and your sons with you shall bear the iniquity associated with your priesthood. 2 Also bring with you your brethren of the (C)tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, that they may be (D)joined with you and serve you while you and your sons are with you before the tabernacle of [b]witness. 3 They shall attend to your [c]needs and (E)all the needs of the tabernacle; (F)but they shall not come near the articles of the sanctuary and the altar, (G)lest they die—they and you also. 4 They shall be joined with you and attend to the needs of the tabernacle of meeting, for all the work of the tabernacle; (H)but an outsider shall not come near you. 5 And you shall attend to (I)the duties of the sanctuary and the duties of the altar, (J)that there may be no more wrath on the children of Israel. 6 Behold, I Myself have (K)taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel; (L)they are a gift to you, given by the Lord, to do the work of the tabernacle of meeting. 7 Therefore (M)you and your sons with you shall attend to your priesthood for everything at the altar and (N)behind the veil; and you shall serve. I give your priesthood to you as a (O)gift for service, but the outsider who comes near shall be put to death.”
Offerings for Support of the Priests
8 And the Lord spoke to Aaron: “Here, (P)I Myself have also given you [d]charge of My heave offerings, all the holy gifts of the children of Israel; I have given them (Q)as a portion to you and your sons, as an ordinance forever. 9 This shall be yours of the most holy things reserved from the fire: every offering of theirs, every (R)grain offering and every (S)sin offering and every (T)trespass offering which they render to Me, shall be most holy for you and your sons. 10 (U)In a most holy place you shall eat it; every male shall eat it. It shall be holy to you.
11 “This also is yours: (V)the heave offering of their gift, with all the wave offerings of the children of Israel; I have given them to you, and your sons and daughters with you, as an ordinance forever. (W)Everyone who is [e]clean in your house may eat it.
12 (X)“All the [f]best of the oil, all the best of the new wine and the grain, (Y)their firstfruits which they offer to the Lord, I have given them to you. 13 Whatever first ripe fruit is in their land, (Z)which they bring to the Lord, shall be yours. Everyone who is clean in your house may eat it.
14 (AA)“Every [g]devoted thing in Israel shall be yours.
15 “Everything that first opens (AB)the womb of all flesh, which they bring to the Lord, whether man or beast, shall be yours; nevertheless (AC)the firstborn of man you shall surely redeem, and the firstborn of unclean animals you shall redeem. 16 And those redeemed of the devoted things you shall redeem when one month old, (AD)according to your valuation, for five shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, which is (AE)twenty gerahs. 17 (AF)But the firstborn of a cow, the firstborn of a sheep, or the firstborn of a goat you shall not redeem; they are holy. (AG)You shall sprinkle their blood on the altar, and burn their fat as an offering made by fire for a sweet aroma to the Lord. 18 And their flesh shall be yours, just as the (AH)wave[h] breast and the right thigh are yours.
19 “All the heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer to the Lord, I have given to you and your sons and daughters with you as an ordinance forever; (AI)it is a covenant of salt forever before the Lord with you and your descendants with you.”
20 Then the Lord said to Aaron: “You shall have (AJ)no inheritance in their land, nor shall you have any portion among them; (AK)I am your portion and your inheritance among the children of Israel.
Tithes for Support of the Levites
21 “Behold, (AL)I have given the children of Levi all the tithes in Israel as [i]an inheritance in return for the work which they perform, (AM)the work of the tabernacle of meeting. 22 (AN)Hereafter the children of Israel shall not come near the tabernacle of meeting, (AO)lest they bear sin and die. 23 But the Levites shall perform the work of the tabernacle of meeting, and they shall bear their iniquity; it shall be a statute forever, throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance. 24 For the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer up as a heave offering to the Lord, I have given to the Levites [j]as an inheritance; therefore I have said to them, ‘Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.’ ”
The Tithe of the Levites
25 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 26 “Speak thus to the Levites, and say to them: ‘When you take from the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them as your inheritance, then you shall offer up a heave offering of it to the Lord, (AP)a tenth of the tithe. 27 And your heave offering shall be reckoned to you as though it were the grain of the (AQ)threshing floor and as the fullness of the winepress. 28 Thus you shall also offer a heave offering to the Lord from all your tithes which you receive from the children of Israel, and you shall give the Lord’s heave offering from it to Aaron the priest. 29 Of all your gifts you shall offer up every heave offering due to the Lord, from all the [k]best of them, the consecrated part of them.’ 30 Therefore you shall say to them: ‘When you have lifted up the best of it, then the rest shall be accounted to the Levites as the produce of the threshing floor and as the produce of the winepress. 31 You may eat it in any place, you and your households, for it is (AR)your [l]reward for your work in the tabernacle of meeting. 32 And you shall (AS)bear no sin because of it, when you have lifted up the best of it. But you shall not (AT)profane the holy gifts of the children of Israel, lest you die.’ ”
