^8 (A)The people went about and gathered it and ground it in handmills or beat it in mortars and boiled it in pots and made cakes of it. ^(B)And the taste of it was like the taste of cakes baked with oil.

³¹ Now the house of Israel called its name ^(A)manna. It was ^(B)like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

¹⁶ This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Gather of it, each one of you, as much as he can eat. You shall each take an ^(A)omer,^[a] according to the number of the persons that each of you has in his tent.’” ¹⁷ And the people of Israel did so. They gathered, some more, some less. ¹⁸ But when they measured it with an omer, ^(B)whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack. Each of them gathered as much as he could eat.

³³ For the bread of God is ^(A)he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” ³⁴ They said to him, ^(B)“Sir, give us this bread always.”

³⁵ Jesus said to them, ^(C)“I am the bread of life; ^(D)whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. ³⁶ But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. ^37 (E)All that ^(F)the Father gives me will come to me, and ^(G)whoever comes to me I will never cast out. ³⁸ For ^(H)I have come down from heaven, not to do ^(I)my own will but ^(J)the will of him ^(K)who sent me. ³⁹ And ^(L)this is the will of him who sent me, ^(M)that I should lose nothing of ^(N)all that he has given me, but ^(O)raise it up on the last day. ⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who ^(P)looks on the Son and ^(Q)believes in him ^(R)should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

⁴¹ So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, ^(S)“I am the bread that came down from heaven.” ⁴² They said, ^(T)“Is not this Jesus, ^(U)the son of Joseph, whose father and mother ^(V)we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” ⁴³ Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. ⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me ^(W)draws him. And ^(X)I will raise him up on the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the Prophets, ^(Y)‘And they will all be ^(Z)taught by God.’ ^(AA)Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— ^46 (AB)not that anyone has seen the Father except ^(AC)he who is from God; he ^(AD)has seen the Father. ⁴⁷ Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(AE)whoever believes has eternal life. ^48 (AF)I am the bread of life. ^49 (AG)Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and ^(AH)they died. ^50 (AI)This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it ^(AJ)and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread ^(AK)that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give ^(AL)for the life of the world is ^(AM)my flesh.”

⁵² The Jews then ^(AN)disputed among themselves, saying, ^(AO)“How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” ⁵³ So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of ^(AP)the Son of Man and drink his blood, you ^(AQ)have no life in you. ⁵⁴ Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood ^(AR)has eternal life, and ^(AS)I will raise him up on the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. ⁵⁶ Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood ^(AT)abides in me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As ^(AU)the living Father ^(AV)sent me, and ^(AW)I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. ^58 (AX)This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread^[a] the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

^27 (A)Do not work for the food that perishes, but for ^(B)the food that endures to eternal life, which ^(C)the Son of Man will give to you. For on ^(D)him God the Father has ^(E)set his seal.”

²³ he said to them, “This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Tomorrow is a day of ^(A)solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord; bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and all that is left over lay aside to be kept till the morning.’”
