²⁰ You shall invest him with some of your authority, ^(A)that all the congregation of the people of Israel may obey.

¹⁶ And they answered Joshua, “All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. ¹⁷ Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God ^(A)be with you, as he was with Moses! ¹⁸ Whoever rebels against your commandment and disobeys your words, whatever you command him, shall be put to death. ^(B)Only be strong and courageous.”

²⁵ And the Lord made Solomon very ^(A)great in the sight of all Israel and ^(B)bestowed on him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.

^23 (A)Then Solomon sat on the ^(B)throne of the Lord as king in place of David his father. And he prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.

Elisha Succeeds Elijah

¹⁵ Now when ^(A)the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho saw him opposite them, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

⁹ When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.” ¹⁰ And he said, “You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it shall be so for you, but if you do not see me, it shall not be so.”

⁹ When he turned his back to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart. And all these signs came to pass that day.

^6 (A)Then the Spirit of the Lord will rush upon you, ^(B)and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.

²⁸ And ^(A)Joshua the son of Nun, the assistant of Moses from his youth, said, “My lord Moses, ^(B)stop them.” ²⁹ But Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? ^(C)Would that all the Lord's people were prophets, that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!”

^17 (A)And I will come down and talk with you there. And ^(B)I will take some of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them, and ^(C)they shall bear the burden of the people with you, so that you may not bear it yourself alone.
